Write a Quatret

Poetry Contest
A Quatret is a poetry form I created in March 2010. It is a poem that actually consists of three poems. The first poem is a series of Quatrains (at least three for this contest). The quatrains should be four lines in length and contain a rhyme scheme of aabb, abab, abba, or abcb. Either iambic or anapestic meter is recommended. The second poem consists of a series of rhyming couplets which are interspersed between the quatrains, with a final rhyming couplet at the end of the poem. This final rhyming couplet serves to close the poem of couplets as well as the entire poem. The rhyming couplets should be either indented or italicized (NOTE: The site did not allow me to do that in the example). Each of these two poems need to make sense as separate entities. The third poem is the combination of the two poems, such that the entire poem makes sense. Here is the poem I wrote as an example way back in March, 2010, in my early days as a writer:

Inconsequential words will find
a place within my mind at night.
But once I've found that rhyming's kind,
bright images in dreams delight.

It's there I found the puddles left
in streets with old debris bereft.

And then in peace I'll fall asleep
with hopes I'll find an anecdote,
while rhythm copes with words that seep
all through my pores while I make notes.

But in between, cool midnight's breeze
can help produce mind's deities.

It's then I let the words get rest;
In morn I'll churn them out again,
rejuvenate and test the best.
It's only then I choose the pen.

For poetry is one large pool
that captures loneliest of fools

and asks my soul to soar once more.
See poetry to me, my friends
sits at the core of my heart's door.
Above all else the words transcend.

I am that lonely flower pressed
in puddle's pool; but I am blessed.

And, some may say, while yes, obsessed,
my poetry brings happiness.

The contest winner will win half of the prize pool which is based on the number of entries. The second and third place winners will each share the remaining prize pool. The prize pool is currently 25.00 member dollars. There are 13 spots still open. If all open spots are used the prize pool will be 90.00 member dollars. In this contest at least 2 submissions must be made for the vote to begin.

Deadline: Contest is closed. Deadline was Monday, March 30, 2015.
