Classic Haiku
Poetry Contest
Write a classic haiku about nature, any season (kigo). 5/7/5 is a popular form but in English, it's 17 syllables OR LESS in three lines, as succinct as possible. Line 1 and 2 are connected grammatically and at the end of line 2 add a dash to pause. The third line (satori) is a juxtaposition of two ideas. Satori is for contemplation, an AHA!! moment. The poem is written in the present tense. Avoid rhyme, alliteration, and metaphor. Minimal punctuation and all in lower case, except proper names. You may add pictures.
Example:
over the wintry
forest, winds howl in rage --
no leaves to blow.
by Natsume Soseki
The contest winner will win half of the prize pool which is based on the number of entries. The second and third place winners will each share the remaining prize pool.
