Some strange things are happening in King County Washington which is the home of Seattle. (The Emerald City)
The County Council included $7.7 million in its 2021 budget for what it call a a “restorative justice program.” This is great. The community must be thrilled. Any citizen that is the subject of a crime will be qualified to receive restitution payments. What is unusual is payments come from the government, not from the criminal.
It appears the local government is concerned criminals are being treated unfairly. They are being required to pay for their crimes. They have to go to jail and then pay restitution. That must not continue. It appears law-abiding citizens are taking advantage of the criminals by calling the police when they are robbed. Restitution is common but King County believes it’s unreasonable for the thieves to pay. The politicians decided taxpaying, law-abiding citizens need to pay for the crimes of the criminals. That sounds reasonable. It is unreasonable to put the law breakers in jail.
I have an innovative idea. Put the person that is robbed in jail, that way they will not be robbed again, because the criminals are out in the streets robbing other law abiding suckers. I believe this could be an outstanding crime reduction program. However, when all of the law abiding citizens are in jail for their own protection, the county/city will have to come up with a different way of raising taxes, to build more jails. They will have to impose a “crook tax.”
There is one other issue Seattle will have to deal with. Antifa, BLM, and other undesirable elements have formed an autonomous zone in the city limits of Seattle. They have declared they are “Sovereign Citizens” and not subject to American law. It seems to me that would be an invasion. If a foreign country were to invade the United States we would send our military to stop the invasion.
I spent three years in the Third Infantry Division, and I am quite sure it could reclaim that part of Seattle in about four minutes. They would have to find some place to take the POWs. I’m thinking Antarctica.
