Currently reviewing my objects in life, so writing is taking a back seat, it's kicked into the long grass, it's having a break, it's finding some space, it's looking for stronger roots, it's thinking up a new tune to pl - more...

Prayer from Genesis 1
"In The Beginning" by RichardFann

And there was evening
And there was morning,
The first day.

Let the water under the sky be gathered
Into one place and let dry ground appear.
So gather my fears and my tears
And stand me firm on solid ground.
So let me gather into my hands the sun's rays,
And forever praise your holy name.

God separated the light from the darkness.
So God give understanding to my mind,
To see the essence of things,
And to protect me
From the things I do not understand,
And need not understand.

And God said let there be light,
And there was light.
God, let me step into your light,
Not as a shallow hope or a hollow request,
But lead me to your light,
To bring full colour to my life.

And God said let the waters teem with living creatures
And let birds fly above the earth
Across the expanse of the sky.
So let us allow
Life to the creatures
And flight to the birds
And may man not crush
The creatures and the birds
At every turn.

God created man
In his own image
In the image of God
He created him
Male and female
He created them.

God created us in his own image.
So let us bless God
And affirm our love.
Together we are with him.

On the seventh day God finished his work
And God blessed the seventh day
And made it holy.

Lord God,
Today is not the seventh day,
But bless me nevertheless.
For today you are holy
And today there is time to be holy
For I need your holiness
Sooner than next Sunday.

On Sunday may I be devoted to you
Having parked my possessions
And ambitions in a skip.

Author Notes
Thanks for the picture of the red armchair.

Although not mentioned in the poem, it encapsulates the idea of being safe and surrounded, in a familiar setting.

This is more a meditation than a poem.

It illustrates how a text can trigger off new ideas within me, some traditional, some irritating, some provoking.

What is not mentioned is the life of Jesus,
that I see as irritating and provoking and challenging.

Being religious you might have expected the religious
of his time to flock to him.

They killed him
for his efforts and views.

Have you seen anything like that in your own life?
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
