Mature Adults still shine.
"Sparkles" by Catherin Elizabet Belle
As we sit in our rocking chairs
Listening to the salty sea breeze rustle
The palms on this sunny morn with nary
A fluffy cloud to mar the sapphire sky,
As the morning birds serenade the heavens
A pleasant accompaniment to the elixir
Of life, a smile crosses my lips and
My green eyes sparkle and dance with glee,
At the naivety of youth, recalling
The words this youngster in a booming
Voice proclaiming he knew of what he spoke;
"No fireworks existed in his aging granny
'cause she's too gentle and kind."

Now quietly snickering I recall
The foreign lands to which we went
Cherishing the diverse cultures while dreaming
Of apple pie and home; my eyes dancing
With the fiery glow of cherished memories
Smoldering in my aged heart igniting the afternoon
Dome with radiant sparklers against the azure sky,
The thrill, the lad denied existed, not diminished
By age; as the evening breeze drifts
Off the emerald waters watching the Fourth
Of July display with honor and pride,
I rock in the evening shadows remembering
The glorious times in ages past.
