Faceless yet voidless, with no form that can ever stop trying to grow. Some may call this survival instinct viral, or parasitic. Yet it is the only way to keep moving on . . .

A brief, partially autobiographical piece
"I Hate Poetry" by Lance Polin
I'd like to write a poem
But I just don't care anymore
After all
When did a poem ever change the world?

I used to hate poetry
Back when I was in school
The shit they gave us to understand
Was foolishness--why does this matter at all?

I cannot say I've matured
I can't admit I've changed
But sometimes the movement of words
Can make a violent dance of range.

I guess it can show your emotions
And I guess that a poem can sing
But come on, really, poets
Does any of it mean a thing?

I tried to write a poem
A very long time ago
When I was in school and I was a fool
I wrote about corpse fucking, pedophilia, and misanthropy.

I wanted to upturn the arrogant
That has created my soul
I believed that art was more than this
And that words could change our goal.

Of course this is silly arrogance
And of course we will always fail.
But that means very little, now
As I continue to rail and rail and rail.

Author Notes
This is mostly true, at least in incident and thought process. Lance Polin does not care if anyone agrees with him, honestly about anything. Free thought reigns!
