A storm came in...
"One Winter's Night"
by Ronni
|
It's cold tonight, just getting home
a storm came in, sun reposed for day
windows are fogging, trees howl in icy shrill
hurry inside, hope there is a fire still
Day is done, duties and errands done
sorted mail, sat down in favorite easy chair
should eat, nothing tempts me, hot or cold
it's not food I need, as someone to hold
Miles away are my thoughts this lonely night
listening for sounds too far, but once so near
hear a voice as if echoing from a distant room
one so loved, suddenly gone far too soon
Seems these thoughts have a life of their own
beyond the cold, darkness and dawn
my eyes are closed, still same sights see
emptier the room, loudest silence ever can be

Author Notes
Home alone on a winter's night often summons such rewind moments and memories...
