Chapter 96 of the book 2020
just because
"They Linger On" by Barb Hensongispsaca
It was a war not yet declared,
so many lives were lost.
He served his country, but he paid
the one ultimate cost.

I was told the Vietcong had
hidden underground.
When his platoon went walking by,
he never heard a sound.

They came out of the ground and it
was over in a wink.
Two lives were lost, ten others hurt,
as quick as you can blink.

We were to wed after his tour,
but that was not to be.
My tears of pain just would not stop,
my heart would n'er be free.

My memories still linger on,
I hold them in my heart.
Though he is gone, he lingers on -
and that's the dearest part.

The book continues with While In The Silence. We will provide a link to it when you review this below.

Author Notes
David Ruhl thank you for permission to use your picture.

Memories of a wedding that would never be still linger and takes me back to that selfish unnamed war that terrorized so many families for many years.
