Willy does his courting.
"Noisy Avian" by Aussie
In the wee small hours of night
Humans sleep and snore
Willy is awake, giving us a fright
Always he follows his lore

His girlfriend hears his song
"Sweet pretty creature," we are awake!
He wags his tail for so long
She lands upon grass near to lake

Some call him the night jar
With all that racket
He should be kept afar
Willy is courting, black and white jacket

His girlfriend hops up to his side
He wags his tail to catch small creatures
She is impressed by his wonderful pride
Tiny avians make wonderful teachers

Bold and fearless, size doesn't matter
He will attack a crow in flight
Cheeky, clever, Willy, King of chatter
God chose him to wake us every night

Amazing sight, quick as a wink
Willy became a father of two
His mate was delighted she did blink
How he conned her out of the blue.

Rhyming Poetry Contest contest entry

Author Notes
Rhyming contest entry: Willy Wagtail or the Nightjar is a very clever, tiny bird. He became King of the birds when he hitched a ride under the eagle's wing and was claimed first to be King of the birds. That is a legend.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
