"The Dreamer" by averygrace

Soundly she slept, as the afternoon grew late.
The longer she dozed, the more dreams she could create.

To escape from reality, she yearned to see.
For in fantasy, anything was possible; you just had to believe.

Through closed eyes she longed for her wishes to be conceived,
but young minds can be naive
and like a bird the wishes flew away,
along with her dreams.

She knew that in reality, there was no escape.
Besides death itself, there was only fate.

And in the darkest hours, only dreams kept her awake.

The world was in her hands, but it had flown from her reach.

She tried to take it back,
but it was one thing she could not keep.

In reality she trudged, with a heavy sigh.
The world fell down around her,
like teardrops from shattered skies.

She knew the only way out
was if she closed her eyes
to a place that was not her own; somewhere far from a broken home.

Here, her dreams grew wide.
free from judgemental wrath, fantasy became alive.

In the clouds, she could spread her wings and fly
knowing that when tomorrow's beaming sun would rise,

she would be worlds away, hoping her dreams would never die.
