Author Notes
President Lincoln insisted that the elections be held as scheuled in 1864 even though the war was going on. More importantly, he insisted they go on even though he was convinced he would lose, as all his advisors had told him.
Lincoln still insisted the elections go ahead.

** RE my final line (Trump: Abe's a liar.)
Is a paraphrase of comments Mr. Trump made at a pre-election stump speech while running for his first term. I watched the event on television and wrote down the gist of it. He referred to Pres. Washington, Lincoln and Reagan, by name, as liars and told his audience that he (Trump) is the only president you can believe.
