The Periodic Table
"Amazing Creations No. 10." by Seshadri_Sreenivasan

Amazing Creations Discovered In Dreams. This is my 10th instalment.

One does not have to persistently study the literary canon in order to discover compelling narratives and characters. Turning inward and paying close attention to dreams and nightmares makes for an excellent way for aspirant writers to pull themselves out of creative ruts or get started on their dream projects. Even before Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung wrote their seminal works on dream and archetype interpretation, some of the most famous and influential people sought inspiration in the dreaming world.

We all know what visions we get sometimes in our dreams. Visions of falling off of cliffs. Visions of getting stabbed etc. There are many famous people who had dreams that changed the world.

Every night, I go to sleep I wish I dream and hope that my visions will take a turn toward genius sometime soon.:)
Until then, I'll just take inspiration from these guys.:)

The Periodic Table.
Dmitri Ivanovich Mendeleev (8 February 1834 -- 2 February 1907) was a Russian chemist and inventor. He is best remembered for formulating the Periodic Law and creating a farsighted version of the periodic table of elements. He used the Periodic Law not only to correct the then-accepted properties of some known elements, such as the valence and atomic weight of uranium but also to predict the properties of eight elements that were yet to be discovered.

It's said that Dmitry Mendeleyev was on a three-day work bender when he finally gave in for a few minutes of shut-eye. Instead of falling asleep for 17 hours like most sleep-deprived people, Mendeleyev dreamt of an arrangement of elements that would change modern chemistry forever, then popped up about 20 minutes later to record it.

"I saw in a dream a table where all the elements fell into place as required. Awakening, I immediately wrote it down on a piece of paper... Only in one place did a correction later seem necessary."

Dmitri Mendeleev jotted down the symbols for the chemical elements, putting them in order according to their atomic weights and inventing the periodic table.

Rest is history.
