free verse
"The Nature of Change" by Connie Frazier

a weed was found growing within
so the skillful surgeon pruned
with a gardener's loving care

and laid the groundwork
for healing the blighted area
to return to health and vitality

outside the fruit trees bloom
strawberries and lilacs too
and vibrant spring bulbs

I watch as hundreds
of Painted Lady butterflies
fly north for a fresh start in new form

everything is in action
but to heal, I must rest
accept each moment as new

nature takes time for transformation
I am part of this natural order
so why do I feel compelled to control?

opening windows for fresh air
ignoring the chores I see waiting
I sip tea now and sit in the sunshine

Author Notes
This is a meditation on who I am this spring as I heal from a recent surgery.
