Free verse, a.k.a. If I Were To Write You As A Love Poem
"Writing You As A Love Poem" by CrystieCookie999
Only a hint of cursive in deep blue ink
would adorn your squared-off shoulders
all by themselves delicious in their strength.

Your eyes would speak a foreign language
I understand best in the curve of your arms,
spending the day near a wildwood lake,
with lapping waves of music cooling our feet.

Our fingers would find winding ways
to explore delicate fissures and angles,
miraculous, intimate points with precision,
where a sable-haired calligraphy brush
would tickle and tease out similes and metaphors
the world once dreamed of under constellations
of stars, which were never named but exuded beauty
all the same. And when darkness approached,
we would exult in the echoes of afternoon,
how hips balance against each other,
styled and beguiled by their own character and form.

What do we care if the universe passes away,
if I can but hold your hand,
watch the sunset play a prelude of light
on the hair of your forearm across my chest.

Perhaps the world could hear us aspire to great writing.
Perhaps only sparrows would speak of our love.

And come winter time, our love would be inscribed
in ice on the lake, to remind a pair of pert cardinals
that love once grew here, musically and mightily.

Author Notes
The man this was inspired by is not named, but he exists. In your review, please let me know if the reference to hips and fissures might need a warning or not. I usually write extremely family-friendly stuff and never know how close I get to something else. P.S. I think based on several reviews it is ok without a warning. I stick to G-rated, and PG-rated only once in a while when it comes to poetry :)
