Looking for the invisible
"The Find" by Cheryl I

My sister called to me with urgency.

I walked in and saw our mother lying in bed, grasping my sister by the collar, demanding "Give me my earring! Give me my earring!"

Despite the hospice drugs, Mom's insistence and supernatural strength left no alternative. We needed to deliver an earring.

I touched the sheet, then held my empty hand open to my mother and said, "Here it is, Mom. I found your earring."

She let go of my sister, reached into my hand, and lifted the imaginary jewelry to her ear.

Satisfied all was well, she fell back to sleep.
