A poem I would read at an Algonquin Round Table lunch
"My Contribution" by Marilyn Lou Berry
I trip over bramble and thorn in poor attempt to be reborn.
All that is hidden therein is sin,
breaks my stride, forces me to hide
from both lion and kitten
lest I be torn apart, scratched, and bitten.
Though the dances of Kenya comfort me, I mope
because in search of the underlying truths I am such a dope.
I feign the laughter of happiness as does a kookaburra.
Oh, how my life lacks fioritura.
I remain unaffected by joy or hope: they pass through me
as water passes through the cracks in a vase, yet I still must be.
