I'm just a Hillbilly Poet. Content dictates style for me.
I write what I think-feel-believe.
Every essay, poem, and tale tells a complete story.
I write about what's happening in the world.

A brief story of spiritual warfare
"The Courage of Bonhoeffer" by Robert Zimmerman

his voice was loud in daring defense
opposing injustice for all people
repudiating organizational tyranny
t’was filled with craving for freedom
defending the Brethren a priority
refuting oppression became the passion
alas, the authority refused equality
his voice became louder and actions vigorous
silence was demanded of him
his lack of compliance stiffened
then came custody
no longer was he free
the camp became his prison
the fences his guards
worldly freedom fled
the gallows became his exit door
heavenly freedom rescued his soul
“this is the end-for me, the beginning of life.”

Author Notes
"May God lead us kindly through these times, but above all, may God lead us to Himself."
Dietrich Bonhoeffer was an outspoken Christian theologian in Germany during WWII.
He spoke out against National Socialism and was sent to a concentration camp.
He was hanged in 1945 just days before the camp was liberated.
The last sentence of the poem was his last statement before hanging.
