The Attraction of the Old Rugged Cross
"The Meaning of Calvary" by Deniz22

QUESTION: What do we need to know about Christ's sacrifice on Calvary?

ANSWER: Christ's death was necessary to pay for sin.

This payment was not made to anyone except God, since all sin is an offense to His Holy Righteousness.

He told Adam, "In the day you eat of the fruit, you will die."

Only Christ's blood could remove the curse of death, because only His blood was sinless by virtue of His virgin birth.

Sin is passed on from Adam, who was bitten by the serpent in Eden when he bit into the forbidden fruit.

The Old Serpent's venom has infected the human blood stream ever since that initial sin.

Thus human fathers produce sinners like themselves. (Psalm 51)

However, Jesus Father was God.

Babies produce their own blood, so though Mary was a self-confessed sinner by nature, her own blood did not affect the Seed of God implanted within her by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Thus Jesus is rightly and correctly known as the "only begotten of the Father" while still remaining God the Son.

The Word became flesh; as much God as though not man, as much man as though not God.

Christ blood has fully paid for all sins of all people, whether they believe it or not.

This was necessary because God's book of Justice could never be balanced in any other way.

Sinners burning in Hell forever could never eradicate one sin from God's records.

Christ's shedding of His blood has made salvation possible for the vilest of sinners.

As God told Adam not to eat one thing, so now He commands all to eat the bread of Heaven.

This is another way of saying, "believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved".

As Adam plunged the world into sin, death and misery, so sinners will plunge themselves into Hell by rejecting Jesus Christ who died to be the open door into a new life now and leading to a new world wherein dwells righteousness and love.

So how is it with your soul; saved or lost?

"Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation,

that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.

Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God.

For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him."

2 Corinthians 5:18-21 - NKJV)
