Crows were the guardians of my garden.
"The Life of Crows" by HarryT
Crows, where are you?
Once sentinels of my yard
Come back! Come back!

Since you’ve gone
Those ravenous rabbits
Are out of control

Come to my maple tree
Oh, birds of prey swoop
Down and do the deed

Little neighbor girls
Scream in shock and the
Boys throw stones and rocks

Children root for rabbits
However, me, I cheer for
My guardian black crows

And think about this…
God put crows here even
Made them better than us

They don’t roam in gangs
They’re for each other protecting
Every mother, sister and brother

Young crows don’t hang out
They aren’t about having fun
They scour for food and babysit the young

In the battle of fur vs. feathers
Folks pull for snow-white bunnies
Not their inky-black feathered foes

I say we must stop calling our
Protectors a “murder of crows”
Better to say a “bouquet of crows”

Let’s raise our glasses high
To our black friends in the sky
Come back to my pleasant yard

Let me hear your caws from
trees and overhead wires
Your protection is sorely missed
