Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level
For my teacher...who gave me the confidence needed to write!
"A Kind Teacher!" by Aaqib Naeem
In desperate times
Under harsh conditions
On an aimless journey
Through wayward paths
Too tiresome to continue
Too hopeless to survive
As your knees sink to the barren earth;
Would you still doubt a guide's worth?

Oh how you wish for that helping hand!
How you yearn for that gentle push!
For someone who's been through the same
Someone who knows the rules of the game!

In such moments, fate often smiles!
You get your wish and that person arrives
Strong, ethical and selflessly polite
True of heart and ever an inspiration
With a persona that commands respect
A teacher in every sense of the word!

You urged me to believe
You told me to try
You asked me to fight
And to show no fright
You showed faith in me;
When I had none myself!

Now that I've come a bit further
If ever a challenge troubles me
I don't have to search for advice
I simply stop and imagine your voice
It comes quickly; comes on demand
Forceful and precise; a gentle command

"Buckle up your resolve
And just keep fighting
Pick up your pen...
And just keep writing! "

Author Notes
Authors Notes:

This poem is a tribute that I wrote for my university teacher, Maâ??am Maria Malik, some 3-4 years ago! She was my teacher around the time when I used to be really nervous about sharing my writings and poetry with other people. But she inspired me and gave me the confidence I sorely lacked and needed and as a result, I started publishing some of my work in a local magazine.

To this day, she remains one of the first people with whom I share whatever I have written and can always count on her to get an honest opinion and constructive criticism.

No teacher has inspired me in a positive manner more than her and this contest gives me the perfect opportunity to share this with other people and to thank her along the way as well! :-)

Also, the part in double quotes is kind of the gist of something my teacher has always said to me to keep me going! :-)
