"The Duke"

As the Emperor looked out through his tower portal, he saw subjects toiling and falling from exhaustion and fear. Turning to his Viceroy, he said, “There must be something I can do to stop this horrible scene. My people are falling by the roadside and they perish as I watch.”
“I'll do something to stop this awful plight.” The Viceroy bolted from the room and swiftly returned with a magnificent painting to cover the portal.
