Freestyle poems based on Matthew 5
"Blessed Are The Persecuted" by Sally Law
This is the hardest weight to bear,
to believe and have faith in God
while in the midst of suffering for those beliefs.
To hold fast when your grip is slipping.

Cruelty is delivered with a fist, a heel, or a verbal slap.
Intimidations and ridicule that are perhaps so ongoing,
you believe it will never end, or maybe it's just not worth it.
Jesus says, it's not you--it's them.

Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.
You'll be blessed in the life to come with great reward.
Jesus will be there, waiting, tenderly wiping away every tear.
