Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level
a 3-6-9 poem about childhood and belonging
"Original Sin" by Anya Trofimova
I am from
a mother who carried
me like scuffed elbows or a melon.

From pilgrims
who travelled over their
spines, from forbidden fruit, and wanting.

I am from
the playground rock house, the
safest place, and missed in a tailspin.

3-6-9 Poem contest entry

Author Notes
A poem informed and inspired by my own childhood experiences.

Photograph by Time Magazine.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
