This is such a beautiful story. I suspect you made an awesome Santa. How nice to read you had a Mrs Claus. I can only imagine how much joy you have brought to people during the festive season.

Thank you Pam. Yes I have dozens of memories for those 60 years. I wrote 17 chapters from those experiences in my "Santa Diary" which is in my portfolio if you would like to see sometime. :) Ho! Ho! Bob

This is a lovely tale. You've regaled it in a simple manner, without melodrama or sensationalism, and that makes it all the more effective. It oozes a veracity that'll likely pull at most readers' emotions {smiles}.

Here are a few points you might like to consider:

although they wanted a family, it appeared that it was never going to happen -- Personally, I'm always looking to omit the word that whenever I can. This is because unnecessary words tend to detract from the pace of the prose. So, if removing the word that doesn't change the meaning, then I will delete it. Such is the case here. The snappier result has the same meaning: although they wanted a family, it appeared it was never going to happen.

Lots of pictures were being taken -- And similarly, I look to omit "to be" verbs. Here, if this was mine, I'd have: "Lots of pictures were taken"; it's more active. But like my previous comment, it really is down to the author and the style they wish to adopt.

I love the paragraph starting with "Then, Betty came up." It builds a foundation for the denouement. It's excellent crafting {thumbs up}.

This is a beautiful, heartwarming Christmas story. What wonderful news. After four years their dream finally came true. I imagine you did see quite a few things being santa and all. I imagine some may be to embarrassing to tell. Nicely done. Happy holidays to you as well.

Thanks so much, Misty. I appreciate your reviewing this piece. Yes, in the diary there is a very embarrassing story. If you find time, I think you would enjoy the chapter called "Never Forget The Charmin" Merry hristmas, my friend. Ho! Ho! Bob

What a lovely Christmas story! Lovely at any time of year, but of course, best at Christmas. I love the warmth of the family and friends, their true happiness at the news, and the expertise of your writing. The story just flows along and makes you keep reading to find out what is going to happen. Thank you for sharing this with us!

Loved this one, Bob. Sorry I've not got a six left for it. I've always wondered who the real Santa is - now I know! This would have to have been one of the highlights in your seasonal career.
The looks in the eyes of Elly and Liberty are priceless! A precious picture indeed.
Wishing you and your family a very happy Christmas, and thank you once again for your continued support of my writing throughout the past twelve months.

I like your story of a family celebrating Christmas together. The World's Greatest Grandma shirt reminds me of the shirt my children gave me. It says World's Greatest Dad - Semi-finalist.

Hi Bob,

It's been awhile since I've been on FS, and I do remember you had a book of these, or other stories. I don't remember this one, but I really did love it. It had to have been really fun to play Santa - I remember my uncle used to run across the roof of my house when I was young so my sister and I would think Santa was leaving early Christmas Day. Thank goodness he never fell off the roof when it was snowy!
Thank you for this wonderful story. So often all we hear and read is negative, and stories like these remind us of all the little bits of good and happiness around.

Take care,
Sissy

This is by far the best thing I've read today. Christmas magic comes when you're not expecting it. You made those wonderful people so happy. What greater gift could you give? I hope you're still a Santa. Best of luck with your writing!

Have a great day, and God bless.

Hi Mike. Thank you so much for this review, my friend. I appreciate your candor. However I played Santa year after year for 60 years. I am 80 now and no longer do it due to health issues but I certainly had a lot of experiences in those 60 years. You can read some more like"We need A Little Christmas" in the diary in my portfolio under books. Bless you and Happy Holidays, Papa. Ho! Ho! Bob
