What a lovely story. Loved the photo. Lousy reward, but I am probably a bit late coming along. Geoff is a cat person Louise is a dog person. Geoff actually replaced (well he turned up soon after ) Tina who I accidentally ran over in my car one day.

Twelve years is a wonderfully long time to own a pet, and it seems Jewel is a happy cat despite the green bow on her head. I like how you have found a way to characterize her through this journal as having adapted and appreciating both Mom and Big Dog. Rod

This is a sweet diary entry Jewel. It is a lovely and caring thing your mom did bringing you home all those years ago. A union of two souls sharing their path together. By the way, green suits you - the bow looks great! Have a Merry Christmas. ~DD

This is really in the vein of Mustang Sally's Howie and Bernie series, very similar to her style of using human like personas to define these pets. I think you did a good job portraying the rescued cat here, you threw in some little colorful Catastrophic and CAtnap bits, giving the cat some unique character. It's humorous and fun, light. estory

Hi estory. Thank you for your review of this piece about Jewel. There are several of us who write about our pets from time to time on the site. No one copies anybody's style. We just write about our pets. Marilyn

Thank you, Jewel, for this nice recap of your happy years with your mom and Big Dog! I liked all your "cat" words used. And I hope I get a cat like you someday when we feel settled enough.

Well, your story did it for me!! I told my husband I WANT A CAT NOW! We were going to wait another year, but, why?? I told him there were two kittens waiting for us to collect them. So, I am going to get two, one for each of us to cuddle in the evening, (if they let us!) as soon as Christmas and New Year are out the way. After losing our last one, we were so broken hearted, we decided no more. But, time has passed and I do miss having a cat to love. So, you can tell your Jewel thank you! Her story made my mind up. Those no kill animal shelters are amazing, we have them here in the UK so that's where we will be off to. Love story, my friend, and I hope you and your pets have a wonderful Christmas and super 2019. :)) Sandra xxx

Hi Sandra. Thank you for your heartwarming review of this diary entry for my 'Jewel.' She came to me with that name and it suits her perfectly. I'm so glad you will get two recycled kitties from the shelter. They desperately need homes. Merry Christmas to you and your family. I hope you will post a photo of your new kitties when you get them. Marilyn

I will. We are 'cat sitting in the middle of January for a neighbour, so we've decided to wait until she has gone home. I don't want anything to get in the way of us bonding with our new family. Our last cats were feral, and as loving as loving is. I couldn't begin to describe them, especially my Milsie. Spikey, her brother was taken from us at two years old, and Milsie was only 8. That's why we've been a bit wary of having more. But, now I think the time is right. Thanks Marilyn. When we get them, I will post a photo on here. xx

Hi Sandra. I'm excited about you getting your cats. I agree that waiting until the cat sitting is over is best. Then you can dote on your new fur babies. I've rescued feral cats before, but they really would rather roam free, I think, as dangerous as it is for them. I really never had good luck with ferals. It sounds like you had more success with yours. Blessings for a wonderful Christmas. Marilyn

This is a nice short read, very cute. I like all the cat puns you have inserted throughout the diary entry, and the irony of the big dog and cat being pals it sounds like. How do you keep the bow on the cats head! Thank you for sharing this.

Hi jms. Thank you for your nice review of this piece. Jewel is an exceptional kitty. She is cooperative and sweet. She just kept still for her photo, so the bow stayed put. Yes, Big Dog and Jewel get along. Both are wonderful companion animals. Marilyn

Dear Jewel, As always my dear feline friend, you look lovely wearing a green bow. Now, look dear, I know the ornaments on the tree are pretty well irresistible, but Mummy has put them there for a reason. It's called Christmas, so be nice and don't touch. In a few days you'll wake up in the morning to find some pretty presents by your bedside. They are a part of Christmas too. You'll be allowed to play with the wrappings on them to your heart's content, so enjoy little fur baby. One more thing. Be nice to Big Dog. He keeps you and your mother safe so don't sneak his food or get him into trouble for nothing. Well, dear little friend, have a lovely Christmas and a bright and Prosperous New year. Please convey to your dear mother my compliments of the season,Oh and give Big Dog a pat and a cuddle for me. If that is too much for a small black cat to manage, just a quick lick and a smooge will do. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year with best wishes from Cass

Hi Ms. Cass. I am here next to mom as I dictate this to her. Thank you for reading my latest diary entry. Even though it was 12 years ago, I'm still traumatized by being in that place. Thank goodness it was a no-kill shelter because I would have been long gone, having been there for six months.

Mom's on the couch with me now. Earlier we took a nap together. Big Dog can't fit here with us and opted for the bed.

Thank you for the wonderful sixth star for my post. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a happy New Year. Love and licks ~ Jewel.

Marilyn,

I absolutely agree. I've had 'mutts' all my life - and promise you they are ten times smarter than any pedigree animal I've EVER had. I'm going to tell you something now I am very, very ashamed of. The dog I have now I paid for. It was under a set of really strange circumstances that would never happen again (thank heavens) but because I them, I paid $500 for this pet. YES, I'm being honest. I have never paid anything like that in my LIFE for an animal. And never expect to again.

But all that to say - now I know for sure. Ollie is great and we adore him. But our favorite pet EVER is still a mutt I brought home on first sight. I used to work outside for the phone company installing phones and saw him at one of the houses. I fell in love immediately and brought him home that night. (I'll tell you more about it another day - it was rather funny, really.)

Thanks for posting!

No worries, Robyn. I'm sure your Ollie is wonderful. They all are. I push adoption from the shelters because these animals haven't got a snowball's chance until someone falls in love with them on a walk through. Shelter animals probably have 10 seconds to capture a prospective pet parent's heart and be taken home. Jewel came from a no-kill shelter. Many animals aren't that fortunate. She's here next to me on the couch and thanks you for your review of her post. Hugs, Marilyn
