I love the words to your poem, even though they were sad
. I thought they were very interesting to read.. I love the photo that you choose to go with your poem, they are a perfect match
You captured my attention more ways then one my son was murdered in prison.
Thank you for sharing
Cookie.

That breaks my heart to read that sad fact. Being locked away from those who love you and who you love is punishment enough, but to be murdered while locked up is adding pain upon pain. How sad. May God bless and keep you.

Speaking of a father whose son has no respect or anyone or anything. Rejects discipline and has no tolerance for being taught between right and wrong. Eventually, the end will come near. Unfortunately, this sounds all too familiar with the generation we have at hand. No respect! No discipline! No morals! It started when discipline was taken out of the parents hands. I'm not saying we should have beat them but Dr. Spock said we were abusing the child when we gave them a little pat on the bottom. We were hurting their little psyche if we told them no. Heaven forbid they could do any work as young people. So now, many of them think we owe them a living. It's gotten so far out of hand, it's too late. Look at the riots going on are a perfect example.

I view my ability to write this as a direct result of my mother being one of those mothers who did not treat me like I was a plaything. When I got out of hand, she might very well use her hand(s) to readjust my behavior with a quickness. I consider myself to be a well adjusted man of 77 years with no criminal background whatsoever, although the opportunity to be otherwise engaged was ever present. I knew better, because I was raised by parental wisdom. Thank you for your review comments.

I've known families who experience this, wondering where they went wrong. Taking their kids to church, serving as Boy Scout leaders, reading to them every night, but somehow do not connect with thwhat their child wants. You expressed this well.

Thank you Susan. I try to write about real people on real situations as much as possible. It is of course fum to write silly fun stuff too, but I try to maintain a healthy balance between fun and the reality of tragedy.

Deep. This poem made me feel the passion someone has to want to help someone who, unless they change or help themselves, nothing can be done for them. I enjoyed it.

Thank you my friend. Although this account is fiction on my part, I know tat it is very real for far too many families, and that is just sad. I appreciate your review comments.

Hello Nomi!
Realistic poetic offering.
I imagine I, too, would feel like failed parent if I had a child who acts as you described. Thankfully, I do not. But I surely taught students whose parents may have felt as your father in your offering.

One point:
someday (Someday) this child will end up dead

Thank you for sharing!

Hell of a good job with this poem and it tells me a story from beginning to end. I could see the life from being born and then like a spilt in the road being dead or alive. Very good words and very good poem.
The rings on that guy was awesome

Very nice, we never stop being a father, even when they grow up. More than that, our concern on how they live and who are they hanging around will always concern us, as a father. Thank you for sharing

Parenthood is a difficult task and in todays world where young people have so many outside influences on their lives, it is truly difficult. The picture shows a defiance that would be a challenge for any father to get through.

Well done.

I certainly stirs the mind to think about how a father must feel when his little charming boy grows up and becomes somewhat of a monster. What questions must he be asking himself about how this came to be.

Especially when the boy responds by saying I learned from you, and the father has to come to grips with the fact that he sees himself in hoe rebellious son. Thank you for your warm comments.

It's hard when you have limited resources but want the best for your child. It's something I think many face. The town I live in doesn't have a ton of violence, it has some, but it's more about the drug use here. It can be hard to stay on the right path. Great job with this.
