A very good poem about the effects of the magic potion and the results of
hidden trickery. It doesn't bode well to be deceitfully aggressive only truth brings happiness in the end.

A lesson was learned about loving someone,
dishonesty maims and will never be fun;

You may have had good intentions, but like the sorcerer's apprentice, you soon regret summoning powers you cannot control.

This poem is a strong cautionary tale. The reader needs to take heed. One message here is that manipulation and deceit will never get us what we want. I suspect she'd soon tire of such having a puppy dog. We need to be careful what we wish for. Well thought out.

What a lovely message of reality wrapped in the 'love potion' motif, Dolly! ;) So much truth laced within your gentle verses here... thanx for sharing your wise and rhythmically-soothing pen! ;) Yvette

By using the magic potion as a story line, you attract your readers cleverly and creatively and leave an important lesson to learn.
I enjoyed the read very much.
Well done.

Yes, it's hard to make decent contact with someone, they could betray that trust, we can never really get inside a person's mind, never mind the heart, which is another kettle, there is manifold wisdom in the bible, and talks about the heart of man being deceitful and wick, and I'm inclined to believe it. Well done Dolly, beautifully written, blessings Roy

A very well-written love poem about trying to trick someone to love you never works out because the truth will come out and then there will be a big price to pay for dishonesty.

I suspect there are millions of people out there who fell wildly in love (or what seemed like love), got married, and soon discovered they were wed to a stranger. The REAL person comes out! Your poem is excellent in every respect. It conveys a powerful message about deception and what's real. I like the anapestic meter--smooth.

Well this is just a perfect theme for the Halloween season. Fooling the man by using a magical potion might be considered quite disingenuous. I think the scary proposition is considering what the possible side effects might be, when the poor fella is attached too tightly, because there was a glitch with the eye of newt.

Great job with this and a fun read today, Dolly. :))

This statement, "dishonesty maims and will never be fun; a heart that is open and true from the start, will bond with a love that will not fall apart." is very true. I appreciate your insight.
