Amazing how she managed to get pregnant... and how surprised you were (okay, I had to grin, but I hope it was still maritally happy then...) And she had another surprise years later... Rough roads indeed, Sir Bill. But maybe some smooth ones now with the new wife... ? ;) :) Thanx for the Nort-Cacalacki histoire along with a bit of Bill's Story! ;) Yvette
Bill - Thanks for sharing your biography and thank you for your service. I did my active bit in the Navy from 64 - 68. I was in NC for a few days on the way home from Florida (just before the Pandemic hit) and had a good stay. - Jerry

Hi Marine. You had quite a tour or two in the Corps, eh? I went to Paradise Island for boot. I think you go to San Diego if you are from west of the Mississippi...Parris Island. Go figure, eh. Like an idiot, I didn't choose Okinawa when I re-uped. Worst decision I ever made. I chose NAS Glenview, Illinois. Good essay here, Bill. Bob

I worked the brig in San Diego by the way..(a turnkey)
Very interesting comments about North Carolina. You had quite a history with North Carolina. We can be thankful for the Wright brothers and their choice of Kill Devil Hills as the place to attempt their historic flights. North Carolina is another key state in the presidential race. I am enjoying your tour of the states. judi
You did a good job with your discussion on NC. I enjoyed reading about the different marine bases and your tours of duty. I knew about Kitty Hawk. Your research highlighted many important events and places those who have never been to NC would find informative, too.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan
Dear Bill, this post is a nice combination of interesting facts and biographical information. Among the facts that I found fascinating were: that the Carolinas were named after King Charles, that North Carolina has the highest elevation on the East Coast, and that Charlotte has the second largest banking center outside of New York City.
As for the autobiographical information, that is all past; and all of those things have made you, just the way you are. Carry on!
I worked for South Central Bell for a couple of years in the 90s. I had to go to pole-climbing school in North Carolina. While there, I met a fellow installer and we had a pretty serious romance. He took me to Myrtle Beach one time and we went shagging in the local beach dives. I loved it!
Wow! Did I ever mention to you that I spent eighteen month in Okinawa, Japan? July 1961-Dec 31, 1962. I was stationed at the Kadena Air Force Base, and man did I ever love it. To this day I regret leaving when I did. I am getting a better geography lesson from you than I ever received from the Detroit Public School System. For that, I thank you.

I had to walk to Kadena from Camp Butler with a busted toe one day. Good times.
It sounds like you were stationed across the globe during your military career. I didn't realize the state was named after a king, interesting. I don't know if I've said this before, but thank you for your service.
I traveled pretty extensively through North Carolina while I was on the Wagon Train with Vision Quest. My biggest feat was going through three states in one day. Started in North Carolina, drove through Tennessee and ended the day in VA. That was all in a 20 mile span. Keep'em coming.
