Very good advice on this most fun holiday. I'm glad that halloween continues despite the pandemic, kids would be so disappointed. Safety first though. Best of luck in the contest.

This poem, Have a Safe Halloween, presented in a nicely metered 8-6-8-6 formatting, provides the scene and advice that will make the night of begging for candy a great memory.

Thanks Bill, I appreciate the review. Halloween was my last child's favorite memory. She even had a Halloween party last night and still decorates in her forties.

Fantastic Halloween imagery and visuals, and I loved your rhyme meter! What a treat. I enjoyed the write immensely, and hope you win.

Great lines:

A costumed witch, just crossed the ditch
to knock on someone's door.
The open room, is draped in gloom-
she's not been here before.

Thank you for starting my Sunday with a big smile. Again, best of luck in the booths.

Excellent rhymed and metred Halloween Poem, Beth. I much enjoyed your romp through the perils and joys of trick and treating, and done with just the right amount of surprise.

A terrific poem and entry into the contest and I wish you much luck with the Contest Committee. :)

Very well composed poem. I'm not a fan of Halloween, but I like this poem, with its theme of keeping kids safe. Your illustration also portrays the vulnerability of children. Human trafficking is at an all-time high, and parents really need to keep a close eye on their precious children. Your children may be grown up, Beth, but you never stop being a mother, and thinking like one -- and that's a very good thing.

Thank you Mary Kay. I'm not a fan of Halloween either but I know since we didn't cancel the holiday, they will be anxious to Trick or Treat. I really appreciate the review and especially all those stars.

Interesting poem just right for today. There is a lot of mother's care here. I also see a lot of past remembrance here in this. Very nicely done and arranged. Mom as a child acting as protector is a universal metaphor.

Thanks for the review and comments. Did you see something that I could improve to get a better rating. I hate to lose my six star rating for four stars. Same with the next one.

I do hope the kids stay safe, not only predators but this pandemic too. I do wish things were safe for them like it was when I was young. Your poem is well-written, great advice.

Hi Beth, I loved your poem and I'm glad you have the kid's welfare on your mind. But think about the virus they could carry to unthinking households.
Now, here in Europe, Halloween is all but moot. One country after the other is back in some sort of lock down. It's a disaster. The world will be on its knees before this has ended.
Good luck in the contest. Ulla:)))

Thank you Ulla. Our country should be on lockdown. We have more cases than anywhere in the world but our president makes fun of people who wear masks. He's afraid the economy will go down.

I know, but the irony is that if most of us get ill and or die, there won't be any economy to save. Its a no win siruation. How the heck have we ended up like this? Nature has a way to say enough is enough.

Dear Beth, it is so like you to be thinking this way. Making sure the children are safe this Halloween.
You were right you can't keep them from wanting to go out no matter the time or place, so the advice you gave
is, about as good as you can get, for any parent.

Thank you Suzanne, I thought this might be different from the other Halloween poems. Last time I wrote a Halloween poem it was about goblins and Vampires and scary things.

I figure if kids can go to school they can go trick-or-treating. Of course, I also believe if you can stand in line at Walmart or the grocery store you can stand in line to vote. And I'm the strange one. I enjoyed reading your contest entry and good luck.

Thanks again. I'm sure the children think if they have to go to school that should be allowed to Trick or Treat. My knees don't like me standing line long so I did vote by mail. They may throw it out but I'm old enough to vote that way.
