Your poem speaks volumes about how changes have impact on ordinary lives (both human and animal) and wreck the landscape. Your words paint a vivid picture. The saddest lines are so true:
"The poor...
Well, they stay poor
In the name of progress. "
It makes me so cross this is always what happens. Progress should elevate everyone's lives, not just provide more wealth for the top end.

I'm sorry to hear this, dear poet. I lived in Cape Canaveral, Florida, right after I was married, and the beach there seems fine and maintain its beauty. I wonder why SpaceX has done this to the water and wildlife?

We all vacation and still love the Atlantic area where this is located. The worst polluters are tourists, leaving beer bottles and soda cans littered on the beach. There are trash cans literally every 20 feet, yet trash washing ashore remains a problem. People have become lazy, irreverent, and disrespectful of God's beautiful creation. Sending you my best today as always,
Sally XOs...

Thank you, Sally. :) SpaceX is located less than 1/2 mile from the beach. If you see SpaceX on the internet you'll see.

Such a sad poem, because it reflects the truth of so much that is happening in so many places around the world. Nature is destroyed, no care for wildlife, the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer. Such progress! Thank you for sharing.

That's so sad. It's always terrible when "progress" ruins a way of life for people's hometowns. I didn't know that SpaceX was there at all. Thank you for letting us all know. Great job with your informative free verse!

One suggestion:
I scratch and the money itch my way. (itches?)

This is a wonderful poem, P. Your descriptions of Boca Chica Beach pristine from ten years ago, now tarnished with SpaceX. Even though the jobs are welcome, progress maybe not so much.

Your tone of longing contains just the right note of longing, but acceptance.

A most enjoyable and informative read this evening.

Gloria

Thank you, Gloria. The beach is still nice when you can get to it.

    Jose :)
