I think your story runs true to office politics as I know them and I agree with your note as well, this type of managment doesn't seem to work well.
Good luck in the contest.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

Thanks for your feedback. Happy Thanksgiving to you too.

I like writing short stories. If you like go to my blog (https//www.good-advice-book.blogspot.com) , I post one short story (about 100 word) every week end.

Absolutely true - one cannot please all. Sounds like some-one with a quick sense of humour organised something to outsmart the others. And can justify his actions with 'matrix management'.

I like that, and it's a useful tip for other things. I can imagine children doing that with parents. They both say different things and I know for sure my grandson would add them together. Wonderful true flash story! Well done and good luck. :)) Sandra xxx

Thank you. We all have wisdom to deal with difficult situation. This true story has made me become noticeable and move to a promotional matrix management job which I hated. Ultimately I left because I couldn't handle it anymore.

Wry humor regarding a no-win situation which you slyly worked to a win-win--both wins being yours! Creative mathematical solution to the problem! Good luck.

Thank you. This true story made me become the office political story of the month. Believe or not, it helps me move to the next promotional job which I hated. It was another political job in our head office. The fights were beyond description. Finally I became a victim and preferred ro leave the job.

I wondered why you classed this as general fiction when it is true flash. I doubt that it will have any bearing on the contest requirements, but they do have a class for non-fiction.

Also, in the fourth line, " He then hanged up," you should change it to "He then HUNG up. Use hanged only for people who are executed.

This piece should have a good chance in the contest. Best of luck.

Thank you. I roll down "General" and cannot find a match. I hope it does not affect my competition.

Again, thanks for your good wish. I am counting it may have a chance to win.

You can make changes right up until the contest closes.

Unfortunately, I have no idea what matrix management means, so I'm not all the certain what just happened. My loss, I'm sure. Rules of style call for you spell out numbers of ten, less. I'm not sure how that might affect your word count.

Best of luck.

Peace, Lee

He then hanged up.--should be 'hung up'.

Thank you for reading the story. Matrix management was "the thing" at one time. In this case, my direct boss is located in London and he reports to Switzerland as part of a European region. Unfortunately, I also have to report to Switzerland. The idea is good. London has tow sources of reporting to Switzerland. But it makes me Joe political when my boss does not get along with Switzerland. Got it?

    Also thanks for your coaching.

What an interesting term "Matrix manager" wouldn't that be a confusing thing, I find it. Anyway I think this is a great entry for those that understand, beautifully written, good luck, blessings Roy

Ha. I used to do that with my parents: "Mom can
I..."
"NO you cannot"
"Dad, mom said to ask you, ...."

Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. As teen ager I worked for a man who was my boss, but his wife would sometimes act like she was boss and so I was caught in the middle

Thank you for sharing your experience. It is much tougher and more brutal in the outside world. You never know who may stab you in the back. Anyway, it is fun for me to share my personal experience.
