Bill,

Such a sweet story. You wrote this well and captured the spirit of the effects these girls and woman has had on you.

Well done!

Excellent! Very poignant and moving story about the first love of your life. We never do know where life may lead. My grandfather always said, "Treat everyone as though it may be the last time you see them." This is so true.
I am happy you married "your" Karen with her olive complexion and dark brown eyes. She sounds beautiful!

This is charming. How sweet the first Karen sounds. If you gave her half of your pb&j sandwich, that must have been serious. It is so sad when someone dies that young, especially of cancer. Kids are really hit hard when a classmate dies. Did you become attracted to your wife Karen because of her name.? A very thoughtful presentation. judi

I don?t recall if Karen?s name was a factor back then. She stuck in my mind because she had big brown eyes and hung out with me at recess while the other girls did whatever they were doing.

So bittersweet, Bill. Your wife sounds beautiful and I'm so glad you were able to move on. Our many friendships mold our lives and help us learn to love, I think. Sending you my best today as always,
Sal :))

Thank you, Sally, for the excellent review. The thing about marriages is they do not always last.

I'm going on 46 years with my darling Jackson. I have a strong opinion on marriage. I come from a broken home and it seemed to weigh on me and my siblings. Thankfully, we had a wonderful mother.

This is a very nice reminiscent type story that caught my interest when you said you met the love of your life when you were six years old. That friend that you lost must have bothered you more than you realized. I look forward to what comes next.

Bill,
This is such a profound and poignant chapter. I always took it hard when I lost childhood friends, but the circumstance was only that they had moved away. I'm so sorry you lost young Karen.
You left me with an insatiable curiosity from the last paragraph of your story to read more.
Good luck with all of your excellent writing, Bill.
Blessings,
Cindy

Bill,

No way. Really? What happened? Did y'all just get to talking and realized that she was the same girl? I'd really like to know more of that story. This was interesting. More, please.

Also, did you ever date/like a girl who was not a Karen?

In the seventies there were a few one night stands, but mostly quickies. I only really dated three women, and two I married.

I think I'm going to enjoy reading this series on the friendships in your life. I always like non-fiction. It is sad children have to die so young. I find it hard to believe you didn't realize the Karen you married was someone you had known before, but I will take your word for it.

Funny how we pass someone and not remember their name, but we can recall friends from our childhood that we did not realize had an impact on our lives or we carry them in our memory vault. To this day, I remember a 10-year-old school mate who died of a heart condition
As usual, your range of writing and stories continues to astound me.
This is no exception. You kept the reader's attention although the story until the surprising end.
Very well done and I enjoyed the read.
Mary

Oh, how interesting that you were reunited with that Karen and united in marriage! She must have been your first wife as your wife's name is Kathy, if my memory is up to normal today. Enjoyed your reminiscing of how people who have wove in and out of your life.

Yes, I was married for nearly ten years to Karen and now thirty-five years to Kathy. Your memory is in good standing.

I'm on heavy antibiotics so feel a little loopy - accessing memory is not a given in this state. Have a great week!
