This chapter in the book Fifty Days of Friendship
Fifty Friendship
I found quite sad about the girls that went and never came back
I read this which I'm wondering if you meant to say,

(She had "caught" cancer and died over the summer?)
. I see you said,To be continued. will be waiting.
How nice to see that you got married.
Gert

Karen Lutze passed away at age five from cancer. Karen Dolliver simply moved away.

I think your first love is always special, does something to your heart. It's funny how the girl you met in school ended up being your wife. I guess it was fate for you two to be together all along just not at that time. How did you two meet the second time around?

We were teens, both walking around alone in my home town. Her aunt was at the bingo parlor and Karen was wandering the lonely, Thursday-night streets of our hamlet. We met and talked. She had a boyfriend somewhere, of course. I didn?t see her again until she saw me mowing the lawn. Things progressed from there.

Dear Bill, you continually surprised me with the range of subjects that you have written about. You must have pulled this book out of the closet, because you haven't posted anything into it since I've been on FanStory.

Wait. What? How in the name of all that is holy could you be married to someone from your past and you did not realize it for fifteen years. Was it selective memory, or did she change so dramatically that her true identity was hidden from you for that whole time? This is a very interesting story and I cannot wait to hear the rest of it.

I am your biggest fan when you write with this conversational style. It's very reader-friendly. I imagine that you, like me, went through the writerly period and had to work through it to get to the one-on-one with the reader, conversational style.

A couple of things:

made me wish she had made it. [Bill, this seems rather understated]

I never knew where, [I want to make a small suggestion, Bill. I noticed you used "never" five or six (perhaps more) times in this short chapter. Several of them, I feel, would be better replaced with "didn't".

I don't know why you didn't wait until after the reinstitution of the sixes... You would have gotten one from me.

Thank you, Jay, for the kind and helpful review. I NEVER noticed how many of those nevers I employed in this piece. I?ll need to overuse ALWAYS in this next chapter to achieve balance. More likely, I?ll eliminate them in revision. Thank you for pointing it out.

What a wonderful surprise ending. I love the concept of Fifty Days of Friendship - very clever. I also love the simplicity of a childhood friendship built on kindness and PB&J. Can't wait to read more.

How wonderful you found each other again. I married my childhood sweetheart. We were twelve years old when we first met. So many memories. I know I'm going to like these stories, and look forward to the next one.
