You are right that writing is an art and a gift. Your grasp of rhyme and word use is an example of it. It is happy and spirited piece and speaks to your enjoyment of your craft.

Writing can be either good penmanship or bad. Who ever taught first grade class, could very well be the muse we are looking for....I had a wonderful first grade teacher.

There is some really clever rhyming in this post which makes a change from the cat sat on the mat. The best is of course the use herself hiding her rhyme internally in this line:

'Daphne Du Maurier, a penman warrior,'

This is the sort of rhyme that makes one think 'I wish I had written that!'

Good writing can give me goosebumps. It kindles my imagination and creativity. I agree with you when you say writing is a fully dimensional art form. This is a very creatively written poem. Good luck in the contest!

I did award winning art in my younger days, but find writing much more fulfilling. I believe writers have developed more capabilities which spring from the right sided brain than the average person. This is not idle bragging. A lot has to do with nurturing and positive influences during our formative years, along with good genes of course, 👌👆🤗

The ability to write is indeed a gift - that keeps on giving. An author naturally will hone his or her skill over time - and produce works of many facets. You have captured the excitement of the craft with this beautiful piece. And you have chosen a great muse.

June I value your comments and thank you for your generous rating. You sound as though you know Daphne Du Maurier? Few of my associates have heard of her let alone read her! She is one of my favourites, and I have many. P.C. Wren is outstanding. But his works are hard to find. He wrote "Beau Geste" and "Paper Prison". I was raised on Anne of Green Gables by Maud Mortimer; ? Sewell who wrote Black Beauty and sequels... That sort of thing. I loved Richmal Compton's "Just William" series, Enid Blyton and on and on. I usually had my nose in a book while perched on a branch up a favourite tree 🤗

Oh that story of Rebecca and Mrs Danvers, how I love the tale! We use our imagination to create stories to delight others and ourselves, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Sadly, few have read or even heard of Daphne. One of the greats! Have you read P. C. Wren? Try "Paper Prison" and "Beau Geste" if you can find them. And then there is Walter Scott...
I'm "old school", as you can tell😜🤗👍🏻🌹

I have heard of those books, but not read them as yet x x x

I'd love to hear your opinion of P. C. Wren. "Paper Prison" is outstanding.
    Have you read Monica Dickens?
    Granddaughter of Charles Dickens.
"One Pair of Feet", and "One Pair of Hands". Hilarious!

reply by Dolly'sPoems on 10-Aug-2021
Thank you for the heads up here! No I have not heard of Monica Dickens, I shall look her up x x x

It's nice to have one particular author to reference when talking about your muse. Edgar Allen Poe is one of my muses, but there are so many more. You have done a wonderful job in describing your muse, best of luck in the contest. :)

You have brought up a great question. The rhyme scheme is different but effective. Interesting reference to Daphne Du Maurier. I've not read anything by her. I must give her a try.

Daphne Du Maurier is one of the all time greats. She dates back to the 30s. She was fond of the sea and Britain's coast line and wrote about it

This is so good, Bonnie. I agree with you that writing is an art, and a science, and requires a great deal of thought, imagination, and brewing to find just the right words to create the magic.

I must admit to never having read any Du Maurier, but I shall be correcting that error of omission shortly.

Superb metre and rhyme here, and organized to make the poem pop right off the page.

Many thanks for sharing. :))

Gloria

Hi Bonnie,

Such a great post for My Muse contest. I am a fan of Daphne Du Maurier is a favorite of mine also. Rebecca is so tragic. It still bothers me to this day :-(

Your poem is thought provoking and promotes writing as an art and a science, which I feel it is.

Very lovely verse.

Have a great week, Bonnie :))

Yes, Daphne Du Maurier is an all time great author. Astonished no one had heard of her! What are the schools teaching people these days in Literature class? How to snapchat and FaceTime? Frightens me and makes me get pretty angry really. Have a great week, Bonnie, in spite of the crisis in our schools. Don?t get me started, grrr. :-)

reply by the author on 10-Aug-2021
Senyai, we are in the sane wavelength. Here in SA the schools are teaching African National Congress politics which are steeped in rage and garnished with racism. The indigenous people of 11 different tribes and language groups have fought against change for close on 300 years. I sympathize with them but remain neutral as I prefer God's way to that of the politicians who are greedy, selfish and mostly corrupt. Paradise will be restored to earth soon under God's Kingdom, which we pray for, and then all will be equal, in unity and peaceable.

I must apologize for text errors. I have fired autocorrect and it is retaliating with spiteful vengeance 🤣😂👍🏻😜

reply by Senyai on 10-Aug-2021
Hahah, yes! I fire autocorrect a lot too! 🤣. I hear you, Bonnie. I live in America and am so concerned about our schools here from Pre-Kindergarten through college. The National Education Agency is a joke. Pure drivel is their playbook. They want to teach Critical Race Theory starting in grammar school. This is a program with flawed accounts of our nation?s history to support hatred for the white race and the concept of White Privilege. Of course there have always been haters but to cure racism with more racism is pure lunacy!

Sorry, I get so fed up and down when I see the plans that are in the works here. I hope South Africa will work things out too.

We are on the same page. So the mood is everywhere. We have a fight against the unseen wicked spirits, Satan and his demonic mob. People who've never read the Bible do not believe that he exists. He is the Master of deception and disguise, and stirs up hatred and division.
He is bring called oh right now and is insane with rage. His time is up, that is why the world is in turmoil. This evil system is about to be destroyed very soon at Armageddon.

I will message you later... We have things to talk about😉👌🤗
