Hi Bill, well there goes my chances ha ha. This is clever and original andI loved the line of digging from China,. As a child iI remember my grandfather saying to us if we dug holes, 'Keep digging and you will dig your way to China ha ha. A fun rhyming poem,, Good luck in the contest.

Cheers Chris

I always enjoy your humor Bill! I'm not sure you can even take a boat to Terra Haute. Well, you can but it's a long ride down a slow river. Is poemenator even a word? I like it! Good luck in the contest as always! Sally

Bill! Bill?

Bill-Bill-BILL! What a thrilling moment to be alive!!

My pick~up college class has been seeking out contemporary works of art that cause the reader/ listener to pause (.) while they're sent to another time and place. Wow.

While your piece obviously could never fit all those lofty standards maybe you can put me touch w any writers in class who are GOOD?? Man, that would be AWESOME...

Thanks, dude...

( hehehe)

    I thought for a moment you meant this for another Bill, but I can see I was indeed the target.

This sounds like a fun nonsense poem with clever rhyming and I have never heard of this place and I am unlikely to visit but you brought it to life with your poem here, with cheesy moons and plastic apricots I would be sure to have fun with the locals, he he he, love Dolly x

Very humorous! Being Australian, I am sure I did not get all the subtleties of the wit in this one, but I enjoyed the light-hearted fun anyway. Good wishes for your entry in the contest.

I can sniff a winner in this, Bill. Without losing a bit of your zaniness, this one has general hilarity especially with the opening three stanzas:

If you visit Terre Haute
it's best if you go there by boat;
second best is go by plane,
or, if you must, then take a train.

Never travel there by car,
or zoom in on a shooting star;
don't beam down from the Enterprise;
to dig from China isn't wise.

Terre Haute's in Indiana,
so if you're coming from Montana,
take a right around Wisconsin

"'Scuse me. Are you Mr. Johnson?"

And, with that, like magic we are into the poetic plotline.

To wish you luck on this might be looked at by others as a big rock put in the middle of the otherwise even playing field for the other contestants to trip over.

This clever, humorous poem has a sort of 'stream of consciousness' feel to it that I'm sure you had to work hard to achieve. I have never been to Terre Haute by any of the means mentioned above. It sounds like an interesting place.

This is a pretty wild and conversational "Ode" / "Owed" to Terre Haute. I'm sure Judiverse would be able to affirm about the riding of goats there as she knows all about Indiana. But the poem is well rhymed and humorous. Best wishes in the contest!

    I started with the first line and never stopped until the end. Yes, I do know how to spell ode.
    Whenever I see a direction that insists on a rhyming poem, I think of Dr. Seuss.

reply by lyenochka on 21-Sep-2021
    I never doubted your spelling of "ode." Lol. I did like the dialogue.

If your aim was to write an entertaining poem, Bill, you have succeeded. I wonder what Judiverse will make of it when she reviews. I will peek in on your reviews to find out.

Congratulations! This is the most hilarious rhyming poem I have ever read! I will make sure (next time I go to Terre Haute), to take your good advice. ;)
Sending you my very best today as always, and my very best for the rhyming poetry contest,
