Kids in Jail.
Though they may look like weak and small, frightened kids.
One strangled his baby brother, then claimed it was S.I.D.S

This line above sums it up for me. I really do not think people realize what kids or anyone is capable of. I think after 10 you have the mental capacity to know right from wrong, I know I did!

Shame on that silly woman on the bus, but hey at least she made you think and look at the masterpiece you wrote!

Good job

A Letter Home
It is very acurate you have captured the emotions in this letter perfectly. I am an SO in a british jail, i've read many a letter like that from kids and adults. Some of the youngsters can be rewarding but they're the hardest to manage.

Dude! You rock! I decided to check out your other stuff after reading your Jackson/Sharpton rant and in that one and this one I think you are dead on. I am a fan! Thanks for writing this.

This is one orf the best pieces of writing I have ever read. The insight into the mind of this killer is chilling, and at the same time compelling. The imagery is absolutely beautiful. I am just trolling around the site, looking at writing that has achieved an unusual status. I have found three pieces of yours that fit that category, equally outstanding in their own way. One was the piece about Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, the other the story about the young man who killed his brother to keep him from raping a girl. You are an incredible talent, and in my opinion, a major writer.

I love it! I never was smart enough to sell it---I always gave it away! This is the absolute truth that you've written here. Why we still are arresting prostitutes and taking up space in a jail cell that should be reserved for violent offenders is another mystery of life. Same thing with drugs. They'll let a friggin' murderer, rapist or child molestor out just to put away someone with some drugs or who is a prosititute, (and all drugs should be legal and on an even playing field with perhaps the worst drug of all, alchohol) in the name of job security, the war on drugs, homeland security or whatever the sweetheart flavor of the week is this time.

Thank you for speaking out and up...I used to live in Yorkville. :)

Penny

You are a very excellent writer. I like this poem but I didn't like the line that follows:

It seems forced. I am very glad you received the recogition you deserve for your excelelnt writing. It often shakes me up but that's because it is powerful.

Congratulations on your seal of quality for this work. It is excellent and truly deserving of the honor. We once had a troubled boy come visit us overnight. At the time he visited, I didn't know his history. I couldn't believe the anger and hostility hidden behind that innocent looking face. He slipped outside and threw large, jagged fist sized stones at one of our ponies in a pen, cutting and bruising the animal.
Several months later he ended up institutionalized for a violent assault against someone else. Your poem speaks such truth. What are we to do with these children?
I wish I could award you a six star review but the site will not let me.

Hello Lance,

Very powerful story. You are right, people are always ready to offer 'help' in the form of their opinion, but little in the way of real help.

This is very powerful. Congratulations on earning a SOQ!!

I was just going through my bookcase and found this poem. It is a very good poem. Full of great imagery and heartfelt. I worked for Law Enforcement for15 years and we had to wear uniforms. But we all tried to hide them as everybody thought the law was bad. Great job. Teri
