This was an enjoyable read and Hank Kramer was a great character. He's the quintessential curmudgeon (spelling? - I couldn't find the word in my damn cheap dictionary) and you explained some of the reasons for his bitterness, but I would guess that it runs deeper than that. It will be interesting to see how his character relates to the rest of the plot. The only mistake I found was a typo in the introduction. You need to pick Paul or his, I recommend Paul, in the phrase,"to kill his Paul's wife."

Yes, that "his" was the result of an earlier edit. It got left behind accidentally. Thanks for that, Cooljules, as well as for your review and wonderful rating!

You're all spoiling me in return, Jan. I'm loving the reactions I've gotten with the wondering and guesses going on. Everybody's been so terrific with their responses. Obviously, you're in that group!

    Thanks!

Being an old building, the grocery store?s wooden floors creaked ... - I think "being an old building' needs to refer to the subject of the sentence. This doesn't sound right. I would say "It was an old building. The wooden floors..." Or, "The building was so old that the wooden floors..."

I had no other suggestions. Interesting turns. The bull? The cows? I have no clue. :))

I've removed the first part of that sentence altogether now. It IS better without it.
Keep reading, Sara. All will eventually be explained.

As always, I appreciate your support and the encouragement I feel from your interest in the story.
