This is excellent Marjorie. I love the way you convey the bad tempered mood of the angry and frustrated Greg. There is good imagery throughout and I could really picture the dead leaves flying around and the swirl of the wind. It was like watching a movie imagining Amy silhouetted in the low light. I can't wait to read the next installment!

Thanks for your wonderful review, Julie! While I love FanStory and visit often, I've been inactive on the site since I published Dear Crossing last April. It's the first in my Ray Schiller mystery series. I hope to publish the second, Shadow Tag, this winter. At Any Cost will follow as the third.

At Any Cost, the book whose first chapter you just reviewed, will go through some major changes before it's published. The version here on FanStory needs revision and polishing before it comes out. Based on that, I'd love to have you check out Dear Crossing first, then Shadow Tag, and eventually At Any Cost when it's in its best form. If you're interested, Julie, Dear Crossing is available in print or as an e-book at http://amzn.to/JQqo5y.

    Many thanks!

You grip me with the situation. Well done...an a type has his plans frustrated. But you lose me by continuing to show me what a jerk he is. The dialogue needs trimming in some places as it feels a little stilted.

But would I keep reading? Absolutely.

Well done.

Thanks very much, Larry. The book's in need of a lot of revision. I'll be working on it in the future. Your input is very helpful!

What a compelling opening chapter. I really enjoyed the pace of the writing and little details that set the mood, like the phrase "Dead, wind-driven leaves attacked his legs like a pack of angry dogs as he walked to the front door." Very cool. I look forward to reading the rest!

Thanks so much, bazinfan! I haven't been on the site much these past months, but I value each and every review I receive. I'm thrilled that this first chapter captured your interest. I hope the rest live up to your expectations. The novel still needs a lot of work to get it the way it ought to be. I hope you can help me bring it to a higher level.

    Thanks again!

Moving On
Great chapter. I can see why you would have a difficult time deciding whether or not to drop it. If you have already made up your mind, then by all means disregard all I say. When I read Chapter 49 I actually forgot that there was one more chapter to go until I wrote the review, therefore I thought it was a great way to end it. That said, I do think that this chapter (50) works well to give the reader some closure.

I got pretty excited at the end where Waverly called, I was like, "Yes! the saga continues...", but that wasn't exactly how it panned out....it being a joke and all. I'm torn, a part of me thinks that it would be great to end it with another case so that the reader feels like the story continues. But the way you have it, hints at that and also provides that closure I was talking about. LOL! I'm babbling, forgive me. I hope this review doesn't frustrate you even more, the way you have it now is beautiful and more than I could ask for. Great job at a wonderful story. You are truly talented.

First, thank you soooo very much for all of your feedback. I value it more than you know, DeepEyes. That you enjoyed the story absolutely thrills me. You might not have been able to help me decide on that last chapter, but if ever I manage to get this published, I'm sure an editor would be able to end the debate in a hurry.

Again, many, many thanks, DeepEyes! Your time and critiques are truly appreciated.

    XOXO

Great chapter! This is a book that I would definately recommend. Liz was a real bitch there in the end. I like how you keep the reader hating Liz even after she dies. Great job.

This sentence sounded a little off:
A number of shallow cuts crisscrossed the fingers and palm of her right palm. "hand" would probably work better at the end of the sentence.

One more chapter to go....

Thanks so much, DeepEyes! I had to keep Liz true to her character even as she lay dying. You're right about the palm/hand sentence. The repeat of "palm" wasn't intended.

Yes, one more chapter to go. Yay! Thanks again!

Great chapter, even if you did have to break it into two parts. My heart stopped when Waverly was heading into the woods just as headlights gleamed into view. Thought for sure they were found out. can't wait to read more.

Yeah, that's where posting on FS is different than having the novel actually in your hands--have to keep each post to a manageable size.

Thanks very much, DeepEyes. I'm looking forward to your overall impression when you've finished reading. Can barely wait.

Great chapter. What a bitch, leaving Joey to slowly drown. I hope you kill her off good...a mental institute would suffice I suppose. Good job.

She's one seriously "warped" woman, all right, and she's not quite done yet.

Thanks so much for the super six-star rating, DeepEyes!

It's been a while, but I had to come back to finish your story. This chapter was great. I saw the kidnapping coming when Liz decided to follow Gail and the kids. Through and Through, this had been a very good story, I can't wait to see how it ends.

Phew! I admit I've been holding my breath, afraid you'd lost interest or disliked the ending and didn't have the heart to tell me. LOL I'm hugely relieved! Even if it turns out that you don't like the ending, I'm looking forward to getting your feedback. It means a lot to me either way.

    Thanks a million, DeepEyes!

Great chapter. So far your story has kept my interest without any disappointments or awkward, unimportant details. It is never stressed, flowing perfectly. You truly are a great writer. I may have asked you this before, and forgive me if I repeat myself, but do you have anything in print?
