I am writing this review with tears in my eyes. I think the most important part of being a writer is to evoke emotions and you have accomplished that. My heart bleeds for a child and horse that probably never existed. Kudos and congratulations.

Well, I've done gone and made you cry! There's no greater compliment than to bring someone to tears with a poem. If it evokes strong emotion, a poem has succeeded on many levels. Thank you for the kind review and the 6 stars. Stop by the bunkhouse anytime. Cowboy

What a beautifully poignant story of this remarkable creature, who on one hand was so mean when treated meanly, but on the other was so gently when treated with tenderness.
Sadly he met his death when trying to save the one who was always tender to him.
Great rhyming and rhythm. Well done!

I like a narrative poem, and this one flows well with rhythm and cadence spot on. It reminds me very much of an old English folk tale which haunts me...the noble Lord leaves his faithful wolfhound to guard his small child, and returns to find room and cot bespattered with gore.....he 'slays' his hound in a fury, only to find the body of a wolf at the window and the child unharmed. Your horse draws a similarly short straw!
Thanks, enjoyed it.

Thank you, Kid. I like to write poetry that tells a story. Most people like them except they're by necessity a little longer. Cowboy.

The Mustang

What a beautiful poem about the love between a Mustang and little Nell. A very sad ending that I wasn't expecting. Poor Mustang died defending his best friend. Good job!

What an absolutely touching and wonderful story you have told in these stanzas.

Horses are such noble creatures, and IMHO there are none that cannot be gentled (I refuse to say broken) by kindness and the right person.

As well as a lovely story, your poem read so very well aloud.

Thank you for sharing.

Great poem with a beautiful message. Good word flow, and rhyming in this story of a horse, and his special friend Nell. Enjoyed it very much.

Thanks again, Nancy. I think I would have done well in the old west. Too much information out there today. It's scary.

I really like this poem. It's a beautiful friendship formed between animal and child that no one can tame. You had my emotions when we got to the end. She is saved by her friend and he is rewarded with a fatal shot. It made me think of how things can be percieved when people don't understand the whole story. Great job.

What a wonderful story about the nature of mustangs.

When I was about fifteen I had a mustang mare, that only I could safely ride. Just like little Nell my friendship with Bess paid off. Twice Bess save me from rattlesnakes, by rearing up and striking them dead. Thankfully no harm came to Bess or me, but this story should ring true for anyone who ever rode horses in rattlesnake counter.

Great SPAG-free poem.

Roger

Well, thank you for the 6. Those are rare. Horses are wonderful animals. The Old West would not have been the same without them. Cowboy.

How very sad, the love that animals have for certain human beings who connect with them is endearing. I love ponies (I have no experience with horses)-I live at the edge of the New Forest and I ride through the forest on the bus and the ponies are all roaming wild in the villages and on the heathland-I am so inspired by them. Lovely story and well written, good use of rhyming and most enjoyable. faye
