This is a very well written poem. Good rhyme and easy to read. Cowboy poetry
is what I write and like most. I've done just about everything you can do on a horse.
Since I am now 81, I have settled down. Well done!

Well, thank you, Ma'am. I would think a gal with the name of Dolly would like these and apparently you do. I know my story poems tend to run longer than a cattle drive, but I like to think they are interesting. Thanks for stopping by the corral. Cowboy

Ah, this is true to the grand tradition of cowboy poetry. It's fun to meet the cowboy poet who convinces Saint Peter he belongs there writing and singing poems for his clan of cowboys. I like your use of longer meter although it falters in rhythm occasionally. This was fun to read allowed. Rod

That old pesky meter. These are cowboys. The only meter they know is the dosie do at square dances. I like to think of reading one of my poems as being on a bucking bronco. Sometimes he throws you off but occasionally it is a good ride. I thank you for stopping by to read my poem. You've read several. Keep coming back. Cowboy

I like your analogy, Cowboy. Work it into another poem.

Great write - defied my ADD and kept my interest all the way through. Heaven always needs poets cowboy heaven is no exception. You did a fine job with this and it was enjoyed tremendously.

My poetry does tend to run long, but they tell stories. Think of them as a short short story. Thank you for the review, Sherry.

reply by Miss Sherry on 16-Jan-2019
Oh, long is great! Sometimes a poem is short enough you don't get the full flavor. I enjoyed this immensely - part of my life was lived in Montana, cowboy country so this is my cup of tea!

reply by the author on 16-Jan-2019
Well, a true cowgirl. As to the length, I'm afraid most reviewers skip over the long works because they are in a hurry to post their own poems, which I can understand, but they miss some good ones along the way. I'm glad you liked this one. My best. Cowboy

reply by Miss Sherry on 16-Jan-2019
I hesitate to post longer ones for that very reason...but love reading a good story!

Okay... I saved this just for you... My boyfriend better watch out... I'm falling in lust with The Cowboy Poet!!! LOL Damn! I was just on the phone with Ms. Snyder... we had a 'reading' of this... we need to know how old you are... hahaha! This is just so amazing, I was reading, she was interjecting..."wow" every so often... lol, guess what? You're a hit! Send me an autographed selfie! LOL

Whoa! Calm down, Gal. You're spooking the herd! I don't think I've ever had such an enthusiastic review. I am most humbled. The six stars is most appreciated. A lot of my poetry tells stories like this one. I've often been told that you should write about what you know. I'm just an old cowboy still unsure about how to proceed in this world of technology. I don't do selfies, and the best I can do on the autograph is review some of your work. You and Ms. Snyder are both welcome into the bunkhouse any time. Both of you seem to be wonderful people.

I love everything about this beautiful cowboy poem. So much detail, so much insight. Made me feel like I was back in the old West, when men were tough, times were rough and one worked hard. Survival and sacrifice.
I loved you adding our Father God and St. Peter into this wonderful story :)
I truly wish I had a six star, for this is SO GOOD!
Gale

Bravo Cowboy! Well done. I'd say that old cowpoke poet did a bang up job for the rest of them. He wrote about his time as a cowboy like it was a romance novel. That was the cowboy's life and they love it. It's good they have their own bunkhouse, they wouldn't fit in anywhere else, but save me a seat around the campfire fella. I want to be there. LOL Nancy:)

What an interesting premise! Your poem has rhythm and cadence; it could be a song. I like the visual of angels being herded back. I also like the description of St. Peter wearing a Stetson.

I guess we all have our own vision of heaven. St. Peter was just ahead of his time. Thank you for the kind review. Cowboy

An interesting take on heaven, to be sure. Reminds me a great deal of the song "Fiddler's Green," about an alternate heaven for deep sea fishermen. You definitely get into the rhythm of trail life, and I find myself wondering about the metaphysics of who goes where.
