Your story touched me so because many people don't express their feelings and you never know what life will bring. I lost my brother unexpectedly and wished I had been able to say some things. My Dad was a good man who did tell me how he felt and when he died, it was painful but I had peace. You wrote this very well with a lot of emotion and using the dream was very creative. Nice work.

Well, I was very glued to your story. I hung on every word. The only thing, I was kind of hoping it ended with the letter. I guess, all in all, I like a happy ending. Strange for someone who constantly kills people witha pen- A PC, I mean. Great job

Hi Carol, sorry for the delay. I loved this story. It pulled on the heartstrings. Do you suppose his spirit visited her in her dreams. He was trying to make peace even if he couldn't talk about it.
I enjoyed the story. Luv jada.

Hi, Carol. Meaningful short stories always get away from us on the word count, lol. I read this with a heavy heart. Having two daughters, it pained me that this father could act that way with his.

It was a sad story to me, since Carrie didn't deserve the treatment she received. If anything, her father should be grateful she cared about him. I don't understand that behavior toward your daughter. It was a good read and a powerful story. - John

    John,

I've been faced with this scenario most of my life and recently as dementia sets in my father has taken a turn of attack..My heart breaks while my mind struggles to convince me he doesn't mean it. Thank you for the wonderful review and support. Smiles, Carol

Well, this is a touching family story capturing the culture, characters and good dialogue.
Perhaps there are many more harsh parents who delay expressing their affections and love. Had work in earning a living had something to do with it. Keeping a hectic pace, drained and fatigued leads to bad dispositions and bad words.
You put i well of these relationships and hard feelings.
A deep lesson here is that often a jolly good fellow, with the jokes and nice talk comes short of applied compassion. These polite people usually come short of genuine love and concern for human needs.
But surely somewhere along the way, a good heart in clean living expresss good words and kindness despite trials.

    stumbly,
Though my heart aches with the harsh words, I continue to believe that he just has a different way of expressing his caring. His hard life made him express himself in a harsh way.
    thanks for the kind thoughts...Carol

I completely understand. My stories take on a life of their own too. I enjoyed the story. You did a wonderful job with the emotion. I was crying with her.

A very well writen story. This brought a lump to my throat. I think people of a certain generation, especially men, find it hard to express their feelings and tell those nearest to them, just how much they mean.

Confusing at the end, I thought he was in his casket. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for an easy read. There is good imagery.

    Charlie,

Sorry you missed the clue that it was a dream sequence when he died...and then when she woke up she got the call. Close to the truth of my life of late...Thanks so much for the review. Smiles, Carol

It's so sad that some people are not able to articulate their feelings in a way that draws them closer to others, espeically their loved ones. This was a very good read.

    Lola,

I seriously doubt after 90 years that my father will ever change his ways...though I hope and pray that he will. I am trying my hardest to come to terms with who he is and accepting it. Thank you for the review. Carol
