Excellent recounting of what must be at the top of your list of terrifying experiences. So glad everyone survived. Technically, your essay is perfect. You've done a great job of conveying the tension and fear you and your family members felt. Thanks for sharing this experience.

Presented with an electrifying intensity of various emotions, which in themselves are part of the mystery in unraveling the tragedy of circumstances.

What realism, authenticity,
high drama--like we were
right there with you. The
more we read the more we become
caught up in the story... These
things are not only deadly, frightening
but at times seem so surreal...

Excellent write. Lora

Carol,
your essay about tornado is riveting and very well written. I've lived through two horrible tornado. I was in the May 1999 tornado here on May 3 when a F-5 tornado hit many parts of central Oklahoma. I enjoyed this descriptive paragraph; Moments later, though I am sure it seemed like much longer, the noise was gone. Unfortunately, so was the front of the house. The exact same place the little girl had been sitting was scattered in pieces around the yard. A tornado sound like a train moments before it hits and I've experienced this first hand. The tornado skipped over our neighborhood, but hit the one quarter of a mile away. Oklahoma is unpredictable because we're tornado alley. Thanks for sharing you story.
Melissa.

I am from the Quad City area of IL. I miss the midwest so much. When we were stationed at Fort Campbell, KY an F5 went through Clarkville, TN. Very scary.

After reading this I'm thankful we don't have those sort of severe weather conditions here. Although over the last few years, we have been getting tornadoes, but thank God not as bad as elsewhere. A very descriptive piece of writing. Glad every one was safe.

Excellent reporting on a story of a tornado. Grandma was terrific at making sure her grand-kids were safe, but that thing came and went so fast, luck played a big part in it, too.!

Wow! This story was told in a very moving way, . . .and you made it feel like the reader was right there with you - and your grandson, and your son. When the father grabbed the little girl, . . .I was on the edge of my seat. Thank you for sharing this with us.

this is a chilling detail of the tornados. i have not been in the path of an actual tornado, just the outskirts of one a couple of times. last year one was just one mile from my house. some guys on the bridge took a picture of the center as it went over their sunroof.
