This is such an easy going poem. Everything mentioned is so everyday real. I especially like the lines...
" Only boring people get bored," Granny said
So, I changed the Babe Ruth cards in my spokes.

Oh, how the days behind us bring such awesome memories. Life was certainly simpler back then. Would be nice to go back knowing what we know now.
God bless

This is a beautiful slice of life that I think we'd all like to experience. I personally love your grandmother's statement, "Only boring people get bored." That's wisdom you should never forget!

i know .don't we all long for that old days. Sometimes i feel sad that my children won't have such memories.
You are good in writing verses too. i loved the nostalgia it created and personally I am a fan of free verse (may be it is sour grapes syndrome .smile.)
thanks for sharing.

My college English/Lit teacher said that if we ever turned in a rhyming poem for homework, we would automatically get a failing grade. go figure. :) Bob

-Very nice image
and presentation, Bob.
-You have used very
good imagery to
create a word picture
of this summer day.
-I like the second verse
as you wonder what to do.
-I also like Granny's answer.
-I wonder how many times
kids said they were bored
when growing up!
-The conclusion is very good;
I would go get a piece
of blueberry pie and put
ice cream on it, but I
have no blueberry pie!
-Thanks for sharing.

This gets me thinking back to when things were simpler. Oh, to have the life of a child. My nieces and nephew just got out for summer vacation and I am already telling them to use their imagination when they tell me they are bored. I simply reply. "we have 30 acres go out and have fun." The same thing I told my children when they were younger.

This simplifies that feeling of what it was like to have no cares in the world. I like it.

Yes indeed. If you can young people to put down their "devices" for a couple of hours they will discover the world around them. (I believe) Bob

What a sweet poem of days gone by. I love the photo, too. I like that you are reviving these poetry gems for those of us who are newer to FanStory. Thank you, a real treasure. My internet was down and I am catching up after a difficult week. Sorry I am so behind, Bob. I trust you are well, my friend. It's good to see you today.

Very sweet poem.I realized that you really love your grandmother.I like the imagery in it because you make me picture the images you mentioned in your poem very vividly. You were able to bring your reader to your thoughts of your yesteryears. A quality that I should assimilate in my writing.

I believe the children of today are suffering because they are missing out on the finer parts of growing up. I believe life was better back in the day. Thank you for re-posting.

You are such a good writer. The reader is magically transported to that time and place. The sensory imagery is helped by the onomatopoeia you use. You draw in the reader to become nostalgic about the setting and props. This is a great down the proverbial memory lane. Thank you. I have to give you A+.
