On the one hand, I'm someone who believes in and wants to trust science - but I recognize that it's still a human system manipulated by capitalism and that results in cases like this and I can understand why anti-vaxxers distrust the system so much. Excellent work here, thanks for sharing, later daze.

I feel the same about wanting to trust science. The trouble is that it isn't in the best interest of companies to tell the public all of the risks involved. The fact that I personally knew two other families who lost children to this vaccine, makes me believe that this was only the tip of the iceberg. All of deaths were listed as something else. I'm sure the vaccine may have saved lives too. You have to weight the risks, but you can't if facts are being hidden. Thank you for the review and comments.

I very much enjoyed reading your story. So sorry you lost a child this way, and that you had to go through so much in order to get compensated. I am glad you were able to get the application in on time and received the compensation.

Wow-what a tragic story and one that cannot truly be compensated. To receive some compensation is a good statement to all to truly take responsibility for ones actions. I am truly sorry for your loss.

Thanks for sharing your story. The legal system seems to be set up to delay justice and complicate things to the point that people don't want to follow up on even legitimate claims. I'm so sorry to hear of your loss, but I'm glad you pursued the claim you had. I know it's small comfort, but as you mentioned, the money came at a good time. Blessings.

Tom

Thank you Tom, I appreciate the review and comments. I had no idea who many roadblocks would stand in the way of filing or how many years it would before there would actually be a settlement.

Very well presented and written. I believe the death of a child is demanding of compensation when it is a wrongful death. Thank you for this fine and informative story!

I have no clue how I missed reading this the first time around but I am so glad I caught it this time. Thank you for re-posting it. I know this had to be a very stressful time in your life.

It was an interesting time. We had grieved over Susan so long ago and move on, but I was interested in a chance to know that others were aware that some vaccines cause problems. I was shocked when we finally won the case. It was a pleasant surprise.

I read this yesterday and thought I'd reviewed it. Apparently not! I sympathise with anyone who gets tangled up with legal proceedings. I'm glad to hear that this eventually had a satisfactory outcome, even if only at the eleventh hour.

What a story. Very sad event which was the story's basis, but what a long and difficult struggle to achieve and receive some form of justice. Well written. Good wishes for the contest.

Thank you so much Windy. I really appreciate the review and comments. They made it very difficult to anyone to file. so I'm sure there were many cases left with no compensation.

Hey, Beth. I'm glad you reposted this account. It's amazing how complicated the bureaucracy makes it to receive a fair judgment.
Your reporting is fast-paced, and suspenseful. I'm sure the current vaccination brings up painful memories. My sincere condolences.

Peace, Lee

Thank you so much for the six-star review. They did make it almost impossible to file. As to the current vaccine, I had some doubts, but I weighted the odds and got it anyway. I'm glad I did. My kids had exposed me twice when they had it. I feel less vulnerable now.

I really wish I had a six to give you, for this momentous story. You really beat incredible odds, to win this case. I'm sorry for your little Susan. To think of all of those poor babies who died, as a result of the vaccine harming them! And those 390 cases are only the ones who were able to prove why they died, not including those who were left brain damaged! And what about all the families who were affected by this?

If it was today, I think you would have gotten the information you needed to pursue this, much more quickly, through the internet.

My suggested revisions:

"Beth, did you ever find out about the DPT article I mailed to you?." my mom asked.

I wonder if they ever modified the vaccine, in response to the lawsuit, or the realization that there was a connection between the pertussis component and encephalitis?

Thank you for the review and comment and your expert help with corrections. I tried to find out if the vaccine was modified, but no luck. Since encephalitis is caused by bacteria and whooping cough is caused be bacteria perhaps some of the vaccine were accidentally contaminated with living bacteria.
I personally knew two other families who lost their babies at two months, during the same time period and using the same doctor as I used. One I worked with, and the other I graduated high school with. Those babies died a few hours after getting the vaccine and Dr. Miller told the parents they died of SIDS. Jackson was a big city. If I knew two others, how many more were there? Maybe having so many of his patients die, made Dr. Miller more determined not to admit anything. He didn't want to rick being sued.
SIDS deaths have declined since the 60s. They now attribute some of the sudden deaths to bacteria.

You're very welcome, Beth. That's a very interesting theory, cross-contamination with bacteria. I also wonder if that doctor's heart condition was stress related! I'm just thankful that me and my brother (and your four healthy children) didn't also get sick from the DPT vaccine.
That's astounding, that you personally knew two other families who lost babies, at the same age as Susan.
I'm glad you got the settlement. Your little Susan is safe, in the arms of Jesus. Blessings and love, Mary Kay xoxo

My other children didn't get the vaccine until they wee nearly a year old. The fact that I had whooping cough might have someone made Susan more susceptible. I didn't won't to risk it and the doctor didn't argue about waiting.

reply by Mary Kay Bonfante on 23-May-2021
Yes, that's kind of a catch, with vaccines. Kids also died from whooping cough, I guess?
A lot of people are having such a dilemma with the Covid-19 vax. A lot of people have mixed feelings about it including me. My husband and I both enrolled in a research study, and had our antibodies checked by scientists. Fortunately mine are still strong, over a year after I had the virus. Jorge, who caught it from me, wasn't as sick as I was, and his antibodies are weak. He has a heart condition, so he felt he had no choice but to get the vax. And at the same time, it's a political hot potato.
Yes, if you had whooping cough, Susan was vulnerable. Obviously you had no idea what could happen. And you don't know what would have happened, if you didn't vaccinate her. If I ever learn what happened to the vaccine after the lawsuit, I'll try to let you know!
