Strange, how some things reside in our memories for ever, yet we have difficulty remembering other things.
Your experiences were of particular interest to me because I am currently writing a story set in that time period in England, in which part of the focus is evacuee children.
I really enjoyed reading your story and saw no spag.

Warmly,

Juliette

Hi. A very intersting story. it kept me going until the end. i am not good with SPAG, so I am no help there. It is a good entry for this contest, history and real life, a great match.

Nice photo that complements your lengthy but very interesting story. I knew about English children being evacuated. The worst thing is that you read your father's
death. Best wishes for the contest. I think you are a strong contender.

Hi Dorothy, What a fantastic story my friend, a very detailed story of life during WW2 as a child, I don't know if you read my poem 'The Evacuees', it is in my portfilio, I am doing a follow up to tell everyone about Christmas in WW2 for the children, have you any memories? This as I said is an amazing account of wartime through a child's eyes, thaank you for sharing.

Thank you Eric for such a great review and the generous 6 stars. I will go to your portfolio and read your poem 'The Evacuees'. As for memories of Christmas back then, I'll put my thinking cap on. Warm regards Dorothy x

I've no doubt your mom can hear you up there, and how proud she must be to know of all these memories, terrible, and wonderful. Children are missing much these days, the bad yes...but as your story points out...some so very good, and quite priceless. I was raised in the 50-60's...we had Barbie's, and Lincoln Logs...and our imaginations. Today, kids have more security here in America, and cell phones. I would take your childhood, and mine, even moldy cheese! any day! Great memories here!

I always love the true stories and yours was so interesting. It is very true that if you have a good home life, even if you have very little, you don't know it. You told your story very well and I enjoyed it. Thank you for posting.
A few typos:
1. she attempted to taker my case--"taker" should be "take"
2. she took m back with her. --"m' should be "me"
3. get the bus if the weather was rally bad--"rally" should be "really"
4. However, I passed by 11+ exam and went on to Grammar School--"by" should be "my'
5.How na├???├??├?┬»ve I was to assume--not sure what this is?
6. it was ├???├??├?┬£93, and she spent ├???├??├?┬£17 on a second hand piano --not sure what this is, either.
7. you can hear me up there x. --delete "x" at end of sentence.

Thank you so much gypsycaravan for your great review and all the typos you pointed out. I appreciate this very much. I have no idea what the load of ??? were all about - it seems not wanting to accept British pound signs. I've changed all that you drew my attention to. Thanks again. Warm regards Dorothy

Great story from your early years, Dorothy. I am always amazed when I read about life during certain historical periods. This is no different. I especially liked you pointing out your point of view as a child when you felt like you were going on a vacation. I credit your mom for being a strong woman and making sure her children were ok. I enjoyed this and I think it will do well in the contest. 8-)

I have read about this operation before - how fascinating that for you it is a personal story
You have such great experiences to share - you should write a book! I'm so glad you were not one of the children who suffered in this process. Great character development throughout. Brooke

I enjoyed your autobiography, I now understand why you have an almost a metronomic sense of meter, I was born in Liverpool at the end of 1942, I remember the lollie rationing, there was a film about a lot of war children that were sent to Australia in the war or slightly after and never claimed, perhaps their parents were killed or forgotten, we migrated to Australia in 1951, but I enjoyed your well written story from your early childhood, I enjoyed it Dorothy, you revived my memories of early childhood, blessings, Roy.
