Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level
i loved reading your personal account of a child's
life during the war years in England.
Your detailed memories bring the reader into the story so
that we can experience a little of what you felt and saw.
I like the conversational tone of this essay and thoroughly
enjoyed it. I'm sure you will do well in the contest. Nancy

This was a wonderful story. So often I read stories of the Jewish horrific experience of the war. But there were other victims, I think, we Americans forget about, and that's the European Gentile children. I remember as a kid, our parents would makes us eat all of the food on our plates because children of Europe were starving. We saw picture on TV of little white dirty faces of children crying. I've never forgotten. Thank you for posting and also for giving some humor with the can of pineapples.

I enjoyed this mostly because I was the same age when WWII
started. Of course we didn't have the bombings in the US but things changed drastically and we were ready. Everyone sacrificed for the war effort. Our food and other things were rationed and we bought bonds and grew victory gardens. Our young men were drafted and even some of the older men.I had a selective memory too. I enjoyed the story! Good job Dorothy. Nancy

Thank you Nancy for your great review. Yes, the Americans came into the war in 1942 and without them I'm not at all sure we would have won that war. Warm regards Dorothy x

Your story was lovely, Dorothy, I did enjoy reading it. It must have been exciting, the war years, scary too. I am a post war baby. I learned a lot of how it was back then in those difficult times, it will be great to have this published. You used the word naïve, but it came out garbled-you need to go to Advanced editor and click add symbols, I think, and look for the diaeresis (two dots over the i) Good luck in the contest. Faye

Thank you Faye for your great review. I don't know what caused the garbled rubbish. It was when I tried typing the British pound symbol. Have changed it. Warm regards Dorothy x ( could not face going into Advanced editor - I'm sick of this piece and just want it off my hands LOL)

this is an excellent write, Dorothy, you did an excellent job writing this story about the evacuation that took place when you were a little girl and you didn't truly understand it until you got to where you were going. great imagery presented in each part of your essay and what your family went through. good luck in the contest.
