I found myself entertained by this story. I found myself a bit confused at first, but I then caught on to the story. Excellent imagery behind this writing. And I loved the twist in the ending and how Lucifer was sobbing, as if he was feeling guilt and regret for feeding on the infants. Very eerie.

Though when I got to the dialogue of the Mother Superior, there is supposed to be a speech tag in a couple of places.

"It is a wristwatch, Mother Superior. It was inside the blanket as I unwrapped him, just where it is now." -this one needs a speech tag.

Even if it means killing one tiny child at a time." - this part needs a speech tag before Even.

I really enjoyed this story. I hope this is helpful to you. Keep on writing!

I think this is a well written piece. I was a little confused at first reading through it until I began to see the direction you were going with it. Such a sad commentary on this "everything is disposable" world we live in.

Love the story and the mishmash of horror and new life or old life. A real menagerie of detailed city life crossed with so many spiritual angles. A very worthy winner of the contest, Dean! Well done, Pete :-)

Dean Kuch: Congrats on the award! Well written with suspense and great details of the alleys, pawn shop, dumpster, hearts of the sisters and the baby boy.

Everyone needs a hand in our life for encouragement. People can fall into the pits within seconds. We need faith. The boys had faith that the baby would have a better life and saw the Saint Agnes home. (My mom's name).

I see how the devil tried so hard, killing babies, putting kids into foster homes, worthless and wasted lives...there is hope with Jesus. You surprised me with scripture...I'm impressed. I admit I skipped reading any of the horror stories in the contest.

I've been reading Dr. Suess, Emily Dickinson and Shel Silverstein to understand poetry....per Brooke's class. I also read the Word every day...feel like a city kid in the barn of milking cows. Thanks for putting hope for the baby at the end.

    Thanks for taking the time to read this, Nancy, as I realize it is rather long.

    Most all of my horror tales include a positive spin of some sort, or give a glimmer of hope, if you will, and the end. I always like to think that the good guy always triumphs in the end.

    Thanks again for your excellent review. I do appreciate the feedback very much.

    God loves us flaws and all. Thank you for reading the Princess Bride...this was before Brooke's class of poetry. Still working on the beat.

    I was very surprised at your ending and the hope that you brought into your well written story. I like this challenge, hope that you do too. I think more of us should do this. I will be entering a Christmas story soon, a rewrite of 2005. With reading your stories and Michael Cahill, I am learning more of character and settings. You should do well in your contests.

    How long have you been writing??? I started rewriting children stories when my daughters were young, so 15 years. Barnes and Knoble writer's group (Plano, Texas) said I was too Christian and kicked me out of their writer's circle. I am glad to be on FS. Dean, until we chat again, Have a blessed Thanksgiving! I've been writing for over thirty years, Nancy. Until recently, however, not quite as extensively. I'm looking to have a book out this coming late summer. It's titled, "Screams From a Darkened Room: and other tales of terror", and it will be my first published book. needless to say, I'm pretty excited about it.

    Have yourself a great day, Nancy... ;)~Dean

    Dean: Congrats on all your awards and your new published book coming out. Thanks for sharing. I am reading a few other stories and poems of yours along the long listing on FS. Enjoy your precious family. nancy

Hi, Deano! Wow! This one runs the full gamut of emotions, doesn't it? LOL I loved it, my friend. You have a very unique "voice" for this writing. I believe you were only doing poetry for the most part when I last read you, but this is quality stuff for sure as prose. You have such a vivid imagination anyway and when you employ it with a story like this, them iamages are terrific to say the least. Like:

"Startled by an answer to his question -- one which he'd posed to no one in particular -- Marty spun around, coming face to face with a little boy. His clothes were ragged and dirty; his face covered in a God-knows-how-long worth of muck and grime. His complexion was pale - anemic, in stark contrast to all of the dirt - and perched atop his head was a tattered NY Yankees baseball cap that was in as bad a shape as he was.

Great job, Deano! Bob

    Hey, Bob. It's so great to hear from you. I appreciate you having a look at my story for me. You know how much I value your expert opinion, especially as it pertains to prose. You're a master at story-telling, as evidenced by all of those Book of the Months wins you won here, LOL.

    Thanks for the sixer, the suggestion, and the thoughtful words. All are greatly appreciated! :)

There are about 4 or 5 writers on this site who's pen is blessed with talent I stretch to brush my pen against. This was amazing and not just the visual images but of course the writing. Each section clicked into one another like a 10,000 piece jigsaw puzzle. Every piece in this story matter. If one section was deleted than the entire story would fall apart. Unbelievable, entertaining, moral mind blowing story.

    Captain Jack, Humpwhistle, Mikey Cahill, Phyllis Stewart and judiverse are those 4 or 5 you mentioned, right, Muffins? I would agree, they're all very good at what they do.

    As for me, well, I just try and get by as best I can. I'm really glad you enjoyed the story, and that it entertained you. I gave this one my best, and my best is all I can ever give.

    Thanks again. :}

This is great, my friend. I managed to read this at 2AM hahaha I getting braver. However, I missed the generous member cents. I have to meet my students when I first browse this. But I came not for that prize, but the blood rush.

By the way, congratulations to all your wins... It's beginning to accumulate. God bless you! c", Mae

    Hah, well, I appreciate you giving it a go, especially at such a late hour. I hope you enjoyed reading it, and were entertained.

    As far as the wins go, well...you know what they say. Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every now and then. I haven't been faring well lately in contests. I think people are beginning to get angry with me, LOL.

    Thanks again for the great feedback, Mae. All the best to you, my friend. :}

What can I say Dean. This was totally amazing. Am in the process of purchasing Steven Kings latest novel, then I read this. you really are a master in this field of writing. Horror, terror, deep and dark. Just brilliant. A well crafted story ith lots of twists and turns evoking fear and revulsion along the way. Guess even Lucifer would turn in his grave if he read this one. Totally brilliant. Genya

This was not too long, Dean, I thought it was a really enjoyable story, and was surprised to bet to the end so quickly You are FS's Steven King, and I am sure your stories would sell well. This one was outstanding, you put so much grisly, putrid description in it, it was hard not to be taken right in. The one place that made me smile, was the ending, Lucifer hanging his head and crying. I am so pleased I book marked this too, I can read it now, whenever I want too. Great writing, my friend! Good luck in the contest. xsx Sandra

    Thanks very much, Sandra, what a wonderful compliment. I do try very hard to entertain, shock and terrify anyone who cares enough and takes the time to read what I've written. You're right, I gave this one my all, and my all is all I'll ever give.

    Thanks so much again for the outstanding feedback and response. I'm very humbled by your comments. :}
