Now I'm crying. It's 3.30 a.m. the pain meds haven't kicked in yet so I read some stories and I cry at your beautiful words. Thank you so much for being the storyteller you are. I would like to be considered a friend of yours. I don't know many people that can touch an old lady the way your words do. Thank you so much. Sincerely Anne.

This is one of the nicest valentine love tributes ice been able to read here on FS. The idea of a violinist at the cemetery playing your memorable song... Beautiful.

Nicely done. John

Thanks so much. I often feel the real love stories are on display in matching wheel chairs where a couple still holds hands after 50 years. Thanks so much for the stars.

Excellent. At first, I thought I was going to get all depressed, but the ending was really lovely and so original. You just keep on getting better and better, Ingrid. Brilliant writing - smooth and effortless and easy to read.

Just a couple of wee wotsits:

I was the one (who) admonished

"Shouldn't you be dancing with the bride?" (o)ur son asked,

preparing to leave the cemetary. - cemetery

Bravo.

Love Av

x

This was HIGHLY inspired by your story about the violinist who played in the train station--memorable.

Thanks for the spag alert and the stars. Try reading 'The Lucky Girl.' I'm thinking about that one for the Toronto Star.

Was the golfing and weather good? Happy New Year!

You're getting a six because you poured your heart out on this. Not sure if it's about you but I had tears in my eyes. This is a love everyone should experience. My Will does surprise date nights and such. On Valentines day we sometimes go out otherwise we order in and do a movie at home. I'm sorry the cashier treated you like that. I had an older lady come in beaming last year and she looked like she had to tell someone something huge. While I was checking her out she told me that she just finished her last chemo. I got excited with her. After reading this I'm glad I got excited with her. I might have been the only person she seen or was able to tell and to have that one person not have the reaction you need would have sucked. I'm a cashier and I promise, okay, I hope I don't make anyone feel like this at work. If this is about you know that your Will is always with you and is waiting for you when your day comes but until then live your life to the fullest. Give yourself those occasional couple days to remember and be safe but don't let it suck you in. If you ever need to talk I'm here

You've paid me the highest compliment that a writer can receive, you believed every word. While many aspects of this story are true, especially the understanding of the depth of loss, the lost life of yesterday and the memories that haunt, this is a fictional story. But I truly wish that I could observe, without being seen, the symphony of this violinist.

It's true that the gift of sharing an emotional reaction, as you have done here, may have changed that woman's life, uplifted her for days and given her the strength to continue. That, dear woman is a gift.

Thanks for the kind words and stars.

This is absolutely marvelous and so deeply moving too. I know it is fiction, but you still got a few tears out of me. I am a sucker for a beautiful love story and this one is a terrific entry for this contest. I sincerely wish you all the best.

Beautiful and very moving piece. I've never been married, so I can't really say much regarding the love you shared with your husband. But I think I understand your missing him. Loneliness is obviously not enjoyable.

I like how this turned out in the end.

Peace,

Mike

Though written in first person, this is fiction. I am a retired widow and have frawn on many personal experiences to write this story, but it's not me. Thanks.

I'll be honest and tell you that, as I started reading this, I was saying, "Oh dear" to myself. But well before reaching the end, I was completely won over by this moving and beautiful piece. I rather missed the use of metaphor, though.

It wasn't a well-exercise metaphor, referring to the couples love of dance and then the violinist playing his songs to the lost loves in the graveyard. Thanks for the read.

Oh Ingrid, what a touching and beautiful story. I'm hoping I can return the kindness you showed me in suggesting I needed to add to my story, and you will know it is offered with the deepest respect and admiration -

One small thing jarred as I read - the verb tense change here: "I'd wept enough..." It is an easy fix - if I may suggest just a small change in the sentence that follows Will's joke about why they're always holding hands: "Nothing could (have been) further from the truth..."

Otherwise, everything about this story is flawless and a wonderful read. I enjoyed it immensely!

Best of luck in the contest. :)

I really appreciate all suggestions and often comment on my free editors. In the case of the words 'have been' it is the kiss of death in passive language and a real turn off to editors, but I'll look for another way to structure the sentence./ Thanks

I love this story. It reminded me of my wife for over 40 years who died 2 years ago which I also visit not only on Valentine's Day, but also, on her birthday and Memorial Day. I bring roses to her grave and make a short prayer. Because of the similarity of the situation--visiting loved ones on special day...devoting some time on special occasion, it related to me very well. It caught my senses with deep emotion. That part of the story where she saw a man playing a violin in the grave of a loved one created a scene that made me feel nostalgic. She became acquainted with the man. And the man offered to play the love song that the writer and her husband loved. The conversation was poignant to me because I remembered our theme song that my wife and I often sing together. Ingrid, dear, thank you for sharing. Dom

Your love story is very much alive in me and the stories of real life, real loves stay with me--forever. This story is as much about you and Rosita as it is about Ivan and me, all mixed up in a new recipe called fiction. Thanks for the stars.

Thank you, Ingrid. I acknowledge with thanks. I notice you are now on the top ranking list. Congratulations. Dom

I was last year's #1 when the rankings opened as well, but it won't last. I know how this game is played and I posted the required six stories in four days--even told others how to do it in an essay.

I'm not consistent, and I will stop writing on this site for weeks at a time and others will soar ahead. I'm just giving them a carrot to chase. I really don't need another trophy. I need to put my writing where it will earn me some money. Thanks for the good wishes.

Ingrid, thanks for letting me know. Our friend Dean Kuh, I'm sure, will be there with you among the top five. From this vantage, I give you both a "HIGH FIVE" dom.

This is a lovely story, Ingrid, a sure contender in the contest. I was prepared to tell you about midway through that it was mis-classified as Fiction. It was written so tenderly, and was in the first person. When I finished I saw it was for the Valentine contest.

Thoroughly enjoyed!

Well Jay, my husband died 15 years ago, I retired almost two years ago. We danced. But unlike my May and Will we had many more difficulties, but there is an element of truth in this fictitious story. I understand the character very well. Thanks for the wonderful stars and kind remarks.
