It brought tears to my eyes. It was a good read. Most writings I read rarely keep my attention beyond the 8th paragraph. Only one typo: woke instead of awoke. Thank you for sharing.

Wonderfully written.
I was in tears toward the end of the story.
Very well done. Absolutely impressed. And I love the photo that accompanies the story.

Thank you so very much. I was in tears myself at the end. It is a hard an difficult story to tell but I honestly felt it had to be told.

Beautifully written in a deceptively simple prose that is rich in feeling and compassion. A very special woman with a huge heart wrote this story that became a story only through her compassionate eyes and noble actions.

Below is a sentence that I think needs an addition (I put my suggestion in parentheses):
"Although I do not speak very much Spanish, (I tried to get through to her, but) she did not seem to hear me".
My reason is that your skill in Spanish is irrelevant to the meaning of the sentence.

Hl Valerie:)
All I wondered as I read your great story of compassion was, "Why not first place?"

You illustrate the type of compassion ascribed to Jesus Christ. Like you, Jesus would have ministered to this poverty-ridden soul. I know when you gave food, water and clothing, those simple gifts came from your heart And what of the hairdresser and pedicurist? Did they not rise a bit in self esteem, as well. Love an d Irish Hugs. As Mr. Spock would have advised, "Live well and prosper."

I was deeply touched by the unfortunate woman and so pleased I could do what I could to make her last days less painful than they could have been. Thank you so much for the lovely 6 stars, I know she would have enjoyed them.

This is an amazing account of your time and emotions spent with your new friend and family member. I'm sure your kindness made her last days much easier and that she appreciated and felt your genuine caring nature. You two communicated. No doubt about that. A bond beyond words.

Hello again Smurphgirlsasha....
Not only do you write beautifully, you have a beautiful heart too.
I'm in tears reading your story.
I am certain that you made the last year of 'Roberta Alexandrina Romero's' life so much more bearable for her. May she rest in peace...

Good luck in this voting booth.
Kindest regards as always, Debra :)

Thanks you. I have seen homeless in Seattle where I came from, but was not prepared for the severe poverty I see every day here. Roberta touched may heart and I am deeply moved that her story has touched even those that did not meet or know her.

That was beautiful. What a wonderful thing to do for a lady who fell on hard times and was lost and alone. Death and blind, I cannot imagine how hard it must have been for her. I am sure she is smiling down on the only friend she had. The sad thing is, there are thousands of people around the world suffering in the same way. You made this lady's life so much better in her last months, for that you should be proud. There was nothing else you could have done, she wouldn't let you. Wonderful story and I do hope you start writing again. xsx Sandra

This 6 is for the excellent writing here as well as for the integrity and charity of your generous heart. Your friend was blessed when you came into her life, not just by money, clothes or food. You have remembered her as a human being, and now we remember her, and mourn her a little, with you. I believe that she also gave something to you, because that's how the world seems to work. I know this story has given us all, as readers, something very precious. A glimpse into a truly loving and giving human heart. Thank you so much for sharing this story.

Thank you so very much. I still say hello to my mother and her new friend every morning. It was a difficult time but I am so thankful I was able to help her last days be just a little better.
