A beautiful picture of your daughter, along with a poem that is a beautiful tribute to her, and down syndrome also. Good word flow and rhyming make it easy to read, and understand.

Rodger she is beautiful ..inside and out. What a joyful message you bring.

She does have God's grace. I wish I had a six for this
Thank you so much for sharing and caring
God bless

    hi Jenny,
thank you so much my friend for your kind words and virtual six. I often think that they are the so-called normal ones and the rest of us are the ones with disabilities.

    All the best, Rodger

What a very loving piece from an adoring Mother. Downs is in all types of degrees and people unknowingly will associate it with only the worst outcome. She is to be admired!

When I read the title in my inbox, I hoped this was going to be about Amanda. I love this beautiful poem, Rodger, and has there ever been someone who loves a Down syndrome kid/person and not want to change that doctor's name? I love the emotion, love, and pride I can feel in your words. Her photograph and your boom makes my heart smile.
Smiles,
Karyn :-)

Hi Karyn, you know me quite well LOL. Thank you so much for your very kind words and extra star. After I posted this poem
I did some more research and found out that from time to time people have tried to get the name changed without much success so I guess we are stuck with it. Thankfully I think most people know that people with down syndrome can and do a full and productive life. I have truly been blessed to be part of her life.
    Thanks again my friend.
All the best, Rodger : )

Warren, this is a very well written poem in good abab rhyme form about a subject near to your heart. I have met several children with this syndrome and have noticed how they smile so easily and are generally really happy children. The picture of your daughter is lovely - such a lovely smile and he 'thumb-up' sign she is giving. My local cafe employs these children and others with various disabilities, and they are really interested in doing a good job and happy to be doing it. Thank you for submitting your story. Warm regards Dorothy x

hi Dorothy, thank you very much for your kind words in reviewing my poem. my daughter works as well in fact she had two jobs at one time and she enjoyed each one. every so often she has a moment of anger but within 30 min. she is apologizing laughing, hugging, the whole works! I'm glad your local businesses employ people with disabilities. They do that in my area as well. I don't recall ever seeing any of them take a break. Good to see you and thanks again.

Hi Warren. I enjoyed reading your well-written poem about Amanda, a wonderful tribute to her. My only suggestion is technical--and that is to either darken the background or the font so it is more easily readable.) Author's note is informative and supports your piece. My friend has a child with this diagnosis. I agree with your poem and comments. Best to you and your family. Marilyn/BeasPeas

hi Marilyn thank you for letting me know about the poems readability. I darkened the background to hot pink and change the font so now it has more contrast. Pink is her favorite color so I have to keep pink LOL. Thanks for reading and reviewing my poem.
All best to you and your family as well, Rodger

Hi Warren. You're welcome. It's easier to read with the background color change--don't you think? It's a little tricky with the new website to get the colors right. Marilyn/BeasPeas

Yes, it's a major improvement! Thank you. I didn't see the hot pink choice when I posted it lol. I wouldn't have recognized it anyway, I'm told that I'm color blind. :)

I remember your terrific previous poem of this very special event involving Amanda, and the terrific Irish hospitality you received, Rodger.

Great picture of a happy and proud Amanda.

You're right about the name of the doc and the condition bearing his name - rather inappropriate IMO.

Excellent 1st stanza of how many people categorise others in often dismissive/disrespectful boxes, and a brilliant metaphor to finish the point.

Another brilliant point in 3rd stanza to express there is no such thing as deceit, but only genuine feeling in a smile like Amanda's.

Strong religious statement to finish in that 'we're all equal in God's eyes'.

It's well worth a sixer, but I've been away a couple of days, and my awarding it one 3 days after posting won't now offer it the possibility of extra exposure.

Bravo! ******

Best wishes, Ray

    hey Ray,
Thank you my friend for reading my poem and for your supportive and complementary comments. don't ever worry about the stars for me your words are much more important.

I haven't been around much lately either, and I know I keep saying I should have more time now but it seems I never do.
    perhaps after Easter??

    Thanks again Ray
    cheers

This work has reached the exceptional level
Anyone who can't see the light in her eyes, the beautiful smile, and the thumbs up, simply doesn't have eyes for seeing. A beautiful poem matched by a beautiful photo of a beautiful girl, can't do much better than that.
Nicely presented with the pink background and white font
Very well rhymed
Excellent double meaning for "down" and clever and touching reversal in the last line. A smile or a frown depends upon your point of view.
Exceptional

I applaud you for your wisdom and Godly understanding many have yet to achieve.
Real Beauty lies within and judged by the eyes of the beholder. I see love and that's enough. God ministers to all of us in special ways, for His ways are not ours. Thank you for sharing this young hero with me. My blessings to you and your family. .

Marvellous poem in honour of a very special girl. Amanda sounds like one in a million. I had not thought of it before, but many with Down's Syndrome could teach us a lesson in cheerfulness. I like your idea of re-naming the syndrome.
